Hi guys - I got my first minis over Christmas and since then I've painted a few random models to practice on (having great fun learning!) but I thought it was about time I started an actual army so I've bought a small ~500 point Ork army and I've finished my first Nob below. I'm just after some feedback really - I'm a firm believer in practice makes perfect - pretty happy with this guy but there's a long way to go - some of the models on this forum blow my mind....

Thanks to all you guys by the way - numerous tips I've picked up here which have helped me improve over the past 2 months.

Try uploading the picture from your computer to the dakka gallery, then you can post it easy.

This is actually pretty good especially considering this is the first one of them you've painted.

The ammo hanging from the gun, it may just be the picture but looks undifferentiated from the gun, so maybe using a different colour or doing a different wash on it would help I think.

Thanks Olim - you're right, I'll touch this up with a different colour. I've also read about drilling out gun barrels - just looked at my 30+ boys and totally agree so that's the next job on my list

Good work for an early effort. Keep at it, dude. You can only improve. Read tutorials, watch Youtube tutorials, and ask for help where you need it! And always stretch yourself. Keep trying new things you haven't done before. Worst that ends up happening is stripping it down to start over.

That is really good for your first model, i think the only thing i can pick out is the gun, needs a little bit more color, maybe brass bullets, or a plate painted red etc.

But as for the shading its really good, certainly worth table top standards.

The claws/teeth are too white. They need some yellow or sepia shading. Also, the paints look too thick on the face.

try using a dark red then adding a brighter red for the highlights on the shoulder pads. If you have some really good metallic paint, I use citadel, add it to the tips of the spikes and a some of the edges. Gives the effect of scraped paint.

I've been painting for a few years now, and I'm finding it more and more difficult to paint that well. Very good for only a couple of months into the hobby!!
