In the standard Space Marine codex, a command squad can be placed on bikes.
The codex says they can take a drop pod but rules out no additions (such as bikes).
The drop pod entry says 12 models, 1 dreadnaught, or 1 TF cannon.
So if I am reading this right, I can drop my command squad of bikers?
Help me out..

Bikers are Very bulky models, counting as three infantry bases. So no.

And on a related note, a local cheese player told us at the tournament that a new Blood Angel trick is running BA bikers out of a Storm Raven. Really?

No. Because, absent more specific rules on the transport itself, only Infantry (and that's Infantry Infantry, not Jump Infantry or Jet Pack Infantry) can embark on transports. This is covered quite explicitly in the main rulebook. The Storm Raven has an exception for Jump Infantry and Dreadnaughts, but nothing else.

Oh. What page does it say infantry for drop pod?

well, i guess the very bulky rule would cover it anyway...

3 WG on bikes could do it... Not cheap, but definitely funny!

It's in the main rulebook. As the Drop Pod is a vehicle, and the only exceptions it has are 1 Dreadnaught or 1 Thundefire cannon, the rules in the rulebook still apply. Very Bulky doesn't even enter into it because they aren't allowed to embark in the first place, so how many spaces they take up are irrelevant.

Here "cheese" meaning "illegal", as despite very bulky and bulky classification now existing, the main BRB is very clear that INFANTRY only may embark. A SR has no exception for Bikes like it does JI and Dreadnoughts, so no they may not do so.

That's not only substantially against the rules its also really really really pointless. Bikes can move up to 24" a turn and start on the board, what possible use could you get out of putting them in a stormraven?

Sounds like I'd be very careful to read over an army list written by this player.

Oh trust me, I do. He likes to wow you with his revelations on breaking the game and speaking loudly over top of other people.

But not having a Blood Angels codex in the middle of a tournament, I wasn't sure if there was a typo on that. I hope I see him try this one...

Sounds like a classic 'That Guys'. I love flipping into full on rules lawyer mode when people start trying that kind of thing.

Worst one I've seen is someone (in 5th mind you) arguing that Mephiston could become part of an honour guard unit because he was entitled to one as a Blood Angels HQ choice and bodyguard squads having slightly special status in the 5th ed rulebook. Had to get the tournament judge to come at sort him out.

Currently the only transport that can house bikes is the Necron Night Scythe.

As a side question, (I agree in principle that bikes should NOT be able to get on Drop Pods...) where does it say that bikes have the Very Bulky rule? I've gone through the bikes and cavalry section twice now, and I don't know if I'm just overlooking it or what, but I can't seem to find that anywhere. I'm not trying to argue that bikes can get into transports, I'm just not able to find the Very Bulky rule and bikes together. Sorry if I'm just being thick, I'd just like to have some knowledge in my pocket in case I have to face some cheesy player of my own someday...

But the command squad could still take an empty drop pod, could it not? It just could not ride in it.

Yes they can still take any transport, regardless of if they can fit inside of it.

I would read the unit entry a little closer on that one. Most SM codices don't let you take a DT if you take bikes or jump packs for the squad.

Generally speaking he's correct, but each codex has it's own limitations. For instance, the Dark Eldar codex prohibits any unit from buying a transport it cannot fit into. Necrons, however, don't have that limitation. You'll have to read the rules carefully to see if there are any restrictions, but the default is that you can buy it whatever your unit size.

That wouldn't even be cheese, that's just bad.
