Glad I got that dragon coming. Really nice looking sculpt.

Hopefully the wings don't interfere too much with him getting into base to base with other units.

For most other games, it probably won't be a problem, but considering the size of some of Darklands' infantry, Parawn could very well be up to his armpits in ogres and trolls!

Never seen that Nurgle Demon sculpt either. Where'd that come from? I can't usually stand Nurgle stuff, but I like that!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

With Erebius on Behema pushed back to Wave 6, only Ciniod on Aurogg (and it's riderless variant) will have been delivered before April for Monstrous Mounts. Most of the sculpts for this campaign (the majority of which were due to be delivered in February) have not even begun being sculpted...

Parawn is looking great! Glad I snagged him.

I also think Eoric's pack will turn out well. The blocking of the musculature looks solid and the more detailed face on the 4th warrior looks good. The concept on those guys was pretty awesome, so I'm looking forward to see them come along.

I have no qualms about ordering anything by Stéphane. This new Monkman guy doesn't inspire me with confidence though, nor Gary Morley.

I can't help but feel they're compromising a bit nowadays, but I might be wrong. It's not like I've wanted to buy everything Mierce have produced, but I was attracted to most of the early stuff and wouldn't hesitate in pre-ordering, I don't think I'll be buying sight unseen anymore (though in the past they've been happy to substitute items in cases where I wasn't feeling the finished product as much as I'd liked the concept, no problems whatsoever in that regard).

There's plenty of time to change an order if the finished sculpt turns out below par, but at the same time, no reason not to simply hold off ordering until said sculpts are done.
However, sometimes we never see the absolute final version, Tykho, for example, only shown as a "nearly done" in brown putty with support wires still protruding.

Same here!

I thought the concept behind and the art on Wulfric's Pack (such as it was!) was nice, but the final sculpts were disappointing - at least for me.

I think I'd hold off on ordering them until they're a lot closer to 'done'.

But for what it is worth, I think they'll turn out great - and better than Wulfric's boys did.

Next load of retail release now up:

Lucky Thirteen

It's a glorious day for more releases from Darklands: First Edition, for this month we have thirteen - one for each kindred and six for the Fomoraic! This is the fifth set of releases from that project and we have some brilliant miniatures, including an infantry unit, to give you. Sadly, we've not been able to get them painted in time for release, but the miniatures themselves are fantastic as always.

For the Albainn: Domnech, a sorcerer, called a Sagart. For the Angelcynn: our very own Timoth, a smith. For the Brythoniaid, and Sell-Swords: Ieuan Longshore and his mastiff Taranau. Ieuan is is our first ancestor release. For the Byzantii: a sorcerer, a Magus Infernum, called Velchior. For the Fomoraic: a Gabrax unit called Baagath's Herd, both as a unit of five and five individual warriors. For the Khthones: Eikovra, a Sávrar host banner bearer. For the Norse: the mighty Rollo Iron Head, a smith. For the Ysians: it's Brugg, our lovely Death-Brute!

Unfortunately, just like the previous releases this year, thanks to us being busier than busy bees we've just not had the time to get the release art and descriptions done; but you can still see some good images of each miniature on the website of course.

Domnech, Sagart of Dun Durn

The Albainn gain a very useful sorcerer this month in the rather tramp-like shape of Domnech, a Sagart by trade, a priest of the Oghu. Sculpted by Olivier Nkweti from the artwork by Sam Lamont.

Timoth, Smith of Langwith

Timoth - modelled on our very own Tim Fisher - is a smith and a warrior of great renown, although he is a little uncouth. Don't let that stop you purchasing this fantastic sculpt by Thomas David (from the art by Des Hanley) to command your Duguth!

Ieuan Longshore, Warrior of Wygan

Ieuan represents our very first Ancestor - a miniature designed around one of our Kickstarter backers, in this case the redoubtable John Longshore. John supplied us with images of himself along with a brief of who his ancestors actually were, and it was found that he was of Welsh descent - and so he fits right into the Brythoniaid! Alongside John is his trusty mastiff, Taranau, who Ieuan uses both as a bodyguard and as a tracking dog...

Ieuan and Taranau were drawn up by Dan Warren from John's brief, and sculpted superbly by a newcomer to our range, Stéphane Camosseto. The result, we think, is fantastic!

Velchior, Magus Infernum

Just like the Albainn, the Byzantii gain their first sorcerer - a Magus Infernum, who can summon demons to bolster the forces of his Legio. Sculpted by Christian Hardy from the artwork by Beth Hughes.

Baagath's Herd, Gabrax Unit

Baagath's Herd is our first infantry unit for quite a while and is a fantastic addition to any Fomoraic host! Included within the unit are five Gabrax or goat-men, including the champion called Baagath, banner bearer, herald and two warriors, and purchasing the unit as opposed to the warriors on their own saves you a great deal of money - £17, or almost two miniatures! The Gabrax were sculpted by the indefatigable Benoît Cosse from the superb artwork by Stefan Kopinski.

Eikovra, Ikon Warrior

Here's another Sávrar, or lizard-man, for the Khthones - Eikovra, who represents a host banner bearer. Sculpted by Roberto Chaudon from the artwork by Christophe Madura!

Rollo Iron Head, Filungi of Hrafnen

Can Allan Carrasco do no wrong? If Rollo Iron Head is anything to go by, the answer is a resounding no! Roll is a Norse smith, a warchief that makes your equipment options cheaper in Darklands, and thus worth his own weight in gold. Sculpted from the artwork by Danny Cruz by Allan.

Brugg, Death-Brute

The fantastic Brugg represents a Brute in its most advanced and normal form; a mutant that the Flesh-Drunes have actually got right for a change. As such, Brugg is more intelligent than normal Brutes and more brutal as a result! Sculpted by another newcomer to Darklands, Olivier Bouchet, from the artwork by Danny Cruz.

All of the releases above will be officially released on the 7th of March 2015, but you can pre-order them now from this very website to your heart's content!

I dunno why, but those Gabrax look better than in any shot I've previously seen of them.

I was all set to grab the Warriors Of Baalor when they released, now I'm conflicted.

That's because these are the best pictures we've ever seen of them!

The WIPs and even the 'finsihed' pics sent by...Benoit (?) did not look that good.

New Kindreds Update

Host Purchasing Deadline Extension, and some Érainn!

It's a lovely day here at Mierce Towers, and it's Friday, which means it's time for an update!

This week we have:

sculpt work in progress updates from Valentin Zak;
news of an extension to the deadline for the purchasing of hosts;
an updated list of sculptors and sculpts for this project;
the fourth snippet of the Darklands: First Edition rules;
news of where you can download the current QuickStarter Rules, Muster Rules and Kindred Musters from the Mierce Miniatures website;
...and anything else you can expect from us over the next few months.
Let's begin!

This week we have a cracking update, even though it's from one sculptor: Valentin Zak... and that means Érainn!

The lovely Men of Clochar are now the first Érainn unit to be sculpted, and by the equally lovely Valentin Zak. These guys are still in the early stages but are chock-full of character, as always with Valentin's sculpts!

Dara is the unit's banner bearer, and he's coming along nicely...

We're loving that face!

Ronan is the Tuanagh unit's herald and is looking great.

Hopefully the Men of Clochar will make it into Wave 7!

Wave 0 - for existing miniatures - is now complete!

Other than that, it's obviously a while until Wave 7 begins so there's not much to say here; just keep watching the updates and sometime in 2015 will give you a more precise list of what miniatures will make it into what wave.

We'll keep this list updated every Friday.

SHIPMENT WAVE 0: (complete): Existing miniatures.
SHIPMENT WAVE 7 (beginning June 2015): Araigh - Men of Clochar (Pádraig - Dara - Ronan - Brian - Colm - Tadhg - Ruairí) - New Kindred Infantry Starter Hosts - New Kindred Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts - Other Kindred Infantry Starter Hosts - Other Kindred Monstrous Infantry Starter Hosts (except those listed elsewhere) - Sáthach on Horse - Danilo Cruz on Horse - Stígr - Taai-ac - New Kindred Specials - New Kindred Sorcerers - Thacaldān
SHIPMENT WAVE 8 (August 2015): Gungonn's Brood - Bronn ap Banbronn - Cqaa - Aggrakk - Gaanh - Gudhlagg - Nikandros - Caitrín - Mildryth
SHIPMENT WAVE 9 (October 2015): Nervor - Vul IX Muyya - Iqqud - Egil Dead Hand - Torleik
Items in bold will DEFINITELY be sent in that wave as we have the sculpt; items in italics are in progress and should make it into that wave, but we don't yet have the sculpt.

As there's still plenty you can purchase from Darklands: New Kindreds, not least of which are the various hosts, we though it would be a good idea to outline exactly how long you've got to purchase everything.

Other Kindred Hosts: until the end of March 2015.
New Kindred Hosts: until the end of June 2015.
Individual Miniatures: until they ship!
Keep watching this list as it may well change - and if you have any issues with the above timings, please let us know and we may well be able to push the deadline back a little for you.

Here's the big list of who's sculpting what and when for Darklands: First Edition II! Please bear in mind that this list may change over time, so don't take it as set in stone until the first work in progress shots appear.

We've split the lists into completely new sculpts and alterations to make life easier for us all!

New Sculpts:

OLIVIER BOUCHET: Olivier will sculpt Gudhlagg, the Albainn Oghur Uhmaer.
ALLAN CARRASCO: Allan will be sculpting Mórannach for the Érainn and Torleik for the Norse.
ROBERTO CHAUDON: already loaded up, we've tried not to give too much to Roberto and failed miserably. He has Titos, Dynatos and The Burning Ones, Mesokolossus Unit for the Atalantes; Gungonn's Brood, Dynwocor Unit and Bronn ap Banbronn for the Brythoniaid; Vul IX Muyya, Dromedus Unit and Iqqud for the Byzantii; and Egil Dead Hand for the Norse.
BENOÎT COSSE: we've given Benoît Taai-ac for the Fomoraic and Aggrakk for the Khthones.
FANCAGNE DIDIER: a newcomer to Darklands, Didier has finished sculpting Araigh and then it's the Beasts of Síleann Fen and Cúlaítar for the Érainn, and Cqaa for the Fomoraic.
YANNICK HENNEBO: Yannick will sculpt three Érainn miniatures, Nuala, Caitrín and Sáthach on Horse, for this project.
ARAGORN MARKS: Aragorn will sculpt Gol Gul, Wihtwald and Heldred as well as the The Dead of Black Barrow, Wihtgar Unit and The Malign of Alum Tomb, Drēaguth Unit. All for the Jutes!
PATRICK MASSON: Excitingly, Patrick will sculpt Gaanh of the Fomoraic!
HECTOR MORAN: Hector has been booked up with most of the Atalantes, including Kyros , Thera, Hektor , Nikandros, the Ilios Guard, Oplites Unit and Kretos; and he's also got Nervor for the Byzantii on his plate.
JUAN NAVARRO PÉREZ: he'll be sculpting Danilo Cruz on Horse for the Visigoths.
STÉPHANE SIMON: we've given Stéphane Eormanræd, Ætulla and Mildryth, all Jute sculpts.
ERNST VEINGART: Ernst will sculpt Stígr of the Norse for us!
VALENTIN ZAK: Valentin has begun sculpting the Men of Clochar, Tuanagh Unit with Dara and Ronan underway. After those, he's got Rudraige the Fat and Cormac of the Red Hand.
Unknown: none.
Alterations:

OLIVIER BOUCHET: Olivier has Hammer-Brugg to alter plus any alterations to the Oghur, Brute and Abhorrent units.
STÉPHANE CAMOSSETO: Stéphane will sort out Shieldwall Eadric and any alterations to the Werwulfas, Trolls and Srónax (the latter two because Allan is so busy).
ALLAN CARRASCO: Allan will produce Leaping Creoda, Spike Qaano, Jörmungand Two Axe, Great Axe Thórrir, Ravenhelm Víthar and Bareheaded Knútr.
ROBERTO CHAUDON: any alterations to his sculpts, including Titos Sigma, Dragonshield Angedern, Armoured Mag ap Mag, Armoured Djiuzu, Frenzied Srók , Cleaver Mälmord, Armoured Hrókr and Talos Delta . There's also alterations to units for him - to the Dyndraig, Dynwocor, Dromedus and Fiend units.
DAN COCKERSELL: just the one for Dan - Armoured Scecchus !
BENOÎT COSSE: we've given Benoît any alternates of his miniatures, so that's Armoured Cearl, Warrior Daachuch , Greathorn Ckaarakk and Armoured Brunchaath. He'll also alter the Gabrax, Krokodar and Tarvax units.
THOMAS DAVID: Thomas has just Archer Sthena to do!
FANCAGNE DIDIER: any alterations to his own work, so Grisly Araigh; and Dairdubh.
YANNICK FUSIER: Yannick will sort out Bloody Bagseg and make any alterations to the Oghu Keepers, Oghurithne Unit.
JACQUES-ALEXANDRE GILLOIS: The awesome JAG will produce Helmed Daarkan and Warrior Tundaar for us.
CHRISTIAN HARDY: Just the two alternates for Christian - Unmasked Velchior and Warrior Aldhelm!
YANNICK HENNEBO: He's begun work on Bareheaded Equitus and then there's just Masked Nuala for the alternates.
ARAGORN MARKS: Aragorn has Mutated Cormorágg to do and will also sort the Wihtgar alternates.
HECTOR MORAN: As well as Helmed Kyros, Helmed Thera and Helmed Hektor, Hector will digitally alter anything he's done, so that's Bareheaded Quintus and the three Legionary alterations. Oh, and the alterations to the Gorgórar unit.
STÉPHANE NGUYEN: Claw-Seza and Hammer-Druc are the sum of Stéphane's work for this project.
OLIVIER NKWETI: Olivier will produce Armoured Dúngal and Skullcap Domnech, along with alterations to the units he's already sculpted - the Teulu, Warriors of Baalor, Gairlom and Rhyfelwyr.
JUAN NAVARRO PÉREZ: Juan will sculpt Bowman Urien and Warrior Ffion for this project, and produce alterations for the Duguth and Ax-Drunes.
STÉPHANE SIMON: As he's sculpted so many miniatures for us, he's got a lot of alterations, too. He'll sort out Helmed Eormanræd, Bareheaded Ætulla, Helmed Ophios, Magma Svrill, Sickle-Annik , Ax-Jowan , Spike-Gondard and Cynuise of Old, plus any alterations to his units - the Holumenn and Gesithas plus the Gorgonar.
VALENTIN ZAK: Valentin will sort Helmed Rudraige, Cormac on Gabrax and the alternates for the Tuanaghta.
Unknown: We don't yet know who will produce Dagger-Kernuor, Warrior Wulfhere, Wulf Skull Cynemon, Warrior Hywel Hir, Warrior Kjartan and the Sword-Melusine alterations.

Really? Thought they are Atalantes but yes thinking now about the concept art they probably are Jutes. Still, paint the robes white toga-style and they could fit with the Atalantes.

edit/ Jutes are the undead ones? Can't remember what the bog people are called.

You're all over the place!

The Erainn are the "Ancient Irish" kindred - and are pictured up a few posts. And they're also the kindred with the Bog Monsters and Treemen.

The Jutes are the Undead Kindred, more or less, along with the big bugs.

The Atalanteans are the VERY Greek looking ones, with the Brass Automota.

APRIL Retail Releases:

What can one say about Gomagg, except - 'Blimey, he's big!' The Albainn now have themselves a huge and mighty Giant, our tallest biped by far and an absolutely wonderful miniature that should grace any fantasy tabletop, let alone Darklands.

culpted by Stéphane Camosseto from the artwork by Des Hanley, the lovely Eadric on Horse is a cracking mounted addition to the Angelcynn. You'll find that, if he's mounted, it's much easier to keep your Forthegn close to your Wælwulfas!

Caedoc is an Abad, an abbott, a Christian warrior-monk who despises sorcery above all else and has no truck with dragons, either. Haughty he may be, but he's certainly very useful - especially against enemy sorcerers... Caedoc was sculpted by Juan Navarro Pérez from the artwork by Dan Warren.

The Byzantii get a monster this month in the scorpion-like shape of Tykho - a smallish monster, but a cracker nonetheless. Watch out for that stingy tail! Sculpted by Stéphane NGuyen from the artwork by Danny Cruz.

With the Gabrax released last month, it's time to give you their big brother - Praach! He's a Gabrox, a goat-monster almost as big as a Srónax and twice as nasty as he can both bedevil the enemy on his own or join his smaller cousins to bolster their battle-line, a very useful thing indeed. Sculpted by Roberto Chaudon from the artwork by Christophe Madura.

This month sees the release of another unit... and what a fantastic unit it is. The Dawn of Khthon comprise five fantastic Gorgórar or snake-women (Myrinna the champion, Syntyss the banner bearer, Thillia the herald and two warriors, Phyllidii and Elthissi), who are just as capable as their male kin, the Gorgonar, on the battlefield. They've been sculpted by a newcomer to our range, Hector Moran, from the artwork by Christophe Madura - and are in fact our first 3D sculpted miniatures, ever. Hector is a master at 3D sculpting and we have been stunned by the result, but don't take our word for it - grab these girls to see them in the flesh!

Following Allan Carrasco's work on the Trolls cannot be an easy task, but Roberto Chaudon seems to have done it without effort! Sculpted from the artwork by Christophe Madura, Mälmord the Fell Troll is a mighty beast hunter on an 80mm base and much larger than the normal trolls. With iron-hard skin and those nasty throwing spears, Mälmord can cause havoc amongst enemy monsters!

Danilo Cruz is an homage to one of our favourite artists, Danny Cruz! Tasked with drawing himself as his ancestor would be, Danny has done a great job and Juan Navarro Pérez has performed an equally fantastic job to bring Danilo to life. Danilo is a beast slayer, hence the long spears and crouching pose, ready to strike upwards; and he's a sell-sword, too, which means any kindred can use his special skills against their enemies' monstrosities!

With Carrowek's horse being a Drune-Horse, at least one War-Drune needed a horse - and Crom was the winner. Still holding his head trophy, Crom looks especially pleased with himself (even though you can't see his face) - and his horse looks very mean, too! Sculpted by Stéphane Simon from the artwork by Danny Cruz.

All of the releases above will be officially released on the 4th of April 2015, but you can order them now from the Mierce Miniatures website to your heart's content!

Watch out for more releases next month, too!
