I had a conversation with a person who said he was "pretty sure" it could. He couldn't remember where he saw it and I can't find it. I know the Hydra has Skyfire, which means that it should be snap shots only. Am I missing something?

Nope. Your friend is just wrong. It could shoot ground targets in 5th, but 6th gives it permanent skyfire but not interceptor.

Yup which turned Hydras from a steal to a bit more balanced in 6th.

Generally speaking most armies have something for a hydra to shoot at, as it can hit skimmers as normal, but if it has no flyer or skimmer targets it is very funny to drive it around at 12" a turn spraying autocannon shells wildly at the opponent.

Thank you. I thought so, but wanted to check. At least it can still hit skimmers at full BS, which helps on occasion.

Only the Hydra Autocannon has Skyfire, the hull-mounted heavy bolter does not. So, if you want to shoot at ground targets at normal BS, you would have to use the Heavy Bolter.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Re-read the Skyfire rule.

The funny thing is that I was reading through the FW Aeronautice rules and all the FW variant Hydra autocannon get both skyfire and interceptor :(

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

And for 50 pts cheaper.

The trade-off, though, is it is a platform, so its immobile, and its armor 11 on all sides, and only has two hullpoints.

Not anymore. IA1 second edition removes interceptor, so it's just a normal Hydra turret on a fixed platform. The most likely explanation is that only giving the Hydra skyfire in the IG FAQ was a relatively late decision, after IA:A had already been sent off to the printer. The platform version was never supposed to be different, so it was fixed in the next book.

Without wishing to derail this thread into another reoccurring subject, there could be an alternative explanation.

The design team at Forgeworld and the design team at the Studio (GW) might not be the same people with the same design philosophy.

The issue we talk about here, and for example the use/non-use of the Vector Dancer, plus the addition of several Forgeworld-specific rules, might be an example of those differences.

For clarity I just repeat this; I do not wish this thread to derail into that oft-repeated discussion.
I merely present an alternative explanation for the issue at hand.
