So I bought me some allied Grey Knights, but don't want more grey models (necrons player). I decided to go black and not come back. They look decent from a distance, but am very open to color suggestions/paiting tips to make them sparkle through the final stages.

I apologize in advance for very poor glare and photo quality.

I like it; the Stormraven could use a bit more red, but it's a fairly solid scheme overall.

I like a litle more black than red, but agree a touch more could go on there. Just not sure where.

Could use a little eval of the force weapon effect. I don't have access to a airbrush. :(

The armour on the guy could use some more highlights (it looks a bit flat in the photos). Other than that though, looks good. As for the weapon, were you going for a lightning effect?

This was my take on black grey knights scheme.

I used gold and bleached bone to give an archaic feel on the armor, but since I suck at painting black I scraped the theme and went with standard metal.

Got milk?

All I can say about painting is that VMC tastes much better than VMA... especially black...

They seem ominous enough, and that's important for the GK!

But don't get pissed off when someone confuses them for a BA Successor Chapter...

Yeah, I don't mind the BA confusion if/when it occurs.

The effect I was going for on the force wep was... well, hell, any effect! I don't like the lightning look to be honest, but I don't have an airbrush to make it all super suave like other weps I see. I was kind of attempting to have a shiny, unstable energy look to it honestly. Throw me some tips or ideas if you can, I'm not overly happy with how it turned out.

Looks good but needs highlights.

Use a dark grey like Adeptus Battlegrey or I think the new name is Mechanicus Standard grey.

As for making decent power weapons without airbrush there are lots of tutorials out there depending on your skill and patience.

You can wet blend from a dark blue towards white for the tip.
Depending on often you do this it can take an hour easy if you are not used to this method.

You can use the express method which is basecoat your weapon with the shiniest metallic you can (usually Mithril Silver or Runefang Steel I think is the new one). Take a bit of skull white and draw tiny lightnings across the blade and along the edge. Use the Guilliman Blue Glaze over the blade and voila.

The good thing is the express method will take about 2-3 minutes for any level of painter.

Last month's WD had a black tutorial that would be good for GKs.
