Was in Michael's yesterday and was surprised how many mythical beasties they've got in rubbery plastic. Besides the loads of dragons (and a few griffons), these hydras stood out ...
... as well as a rather rough-and-ready chimera:
While the chimera is a far cry from the amazing Bane Beast one, IMO it tears the pants off the GeeDub monstrosity, and at a fraction of the cost
All of these critters would fit nicely on a chariot base, with Mr. Hydra probably filling up a 100x150 to account for his flippers.

Not sure on the scale, but if you painted it up and based it I'm sure you could get away with it at a lot of tournaments, I mean at least the minor locals.
Odinsgrandson painted up some dragons from one of those Chinese faux-tique stores if I recall, looked great, wouldn't know it wasn't a real mini.

They are a bit softer plastic than most minis are made from. Having said that, they are a pretty good substitute for the overpriced GW stuff.
And since GW no longer supports tournaments, feel free to indulge... unless your primary gaming location is a GW store that still has gaming tables.

It is disturbing how well they would fit in next to the Khorne mower and slaughterbrute.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

I have two of those hydras in my Dark Elf army they are great.
Way better than GW and easier to assemble. The best part is that Michael's runs a 50% off coupon every few months so you can pick them up for about $7 US. I have been thinking of getting some of the dragons too.
I don't think many tournaments would care as long as it is painted nice. I went to the colonial a few years ago and a guy had a elephant skeleton toy with some skeleton riders painted up nice to be a bone giant. It all depends on who is running the torurnament. Here in the US GW only runs the Games Day one so all the rest you never know what they will allow until you ask.
