I'm writing up a Tau Sept World for a RPG I'm running soon.

I've built up a old Hive-World that has since 'gone over' to the Tau,
as of the 3rd Sphere Expansion.

What I need help on, specifically, is an 'official' Space Marine Chapter that is based
in the "Eastern Fringe", AND is known for specializing in Urban or Seige Warfare.

I'm not very knowledgable on SM Chapters, as I'm more a "Tau Fan" vs. a "SM Fan";
any help would be most appreciated.

I think I remember Imperial Fists being good at city/siege warfare. Whether they are in the eastern fringe or not, I don't know. Try digging around lexicanum.

Imperial Fists are siege warfare specialists and operate just about anywhere in the galaxy. The Phalanx is mobile/

Imperial Fists are the only chapter really known for siege warfare (tho only when necessary, they aren't geared around it), they are fleet based and have fought the Tau upon occasion. The Siege Vanguard list in Imperial Armour 10 however noted that almost any chapter can field such a force and that it is standard practice for a codex chapters 3rd company Captain to bear the title/duty of Siege Master.

If you need a marine force bigger than company sized I'd go with either a single chapter with the Siege Master given overall command irrespective of seniority, or else a crusade force comprised of several chapters 3rd companies.

I'd thought Imperial Fists was a good choice; I hadn't realized that they were fleet-based, so I discounted them as being 'too far away'.

I was just needing a SM chapter that is experienced in fighting in/on Hive Worlds, and would have a likelyhood of 'swinging by' every now and then to annoy the Sept.

Is there such a thing as and "Urban Warfare" specialist Chapter?

There's roughly 1000 SM Chapters. Maybe 40 of them are "official". Make one up to fit your fluff. This will give you some more flexibility to fit your story, as it removes your home-brew Chapter from constraints and limitations of geneseed or equipment or tactical doctrine practiced by established Chapters.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Homebrew a chapter or develop a "offical" chapter that has little to no development, I decided upon the Marines Malevolent for my Tau fluff campaign, since they make very dangerous badguys (very no compromise), and had little fluff on them so left alot of leeway for development.

That being said the Avenging sons have a history of fighting the Tau, and have little development, but you will not do much wrong just to make your own chapter and season as required.

Goodluck.

You could also try using Death Watch as they have kill teams that specialize in killing Xenos and hunting specific targets. Might be a more advanced thing but a bunch of Fire Warriors hunting a kill team sounds kinda cool

Imperial Fists are the father Chapter for the Black Templars, who fought the Tau. So they are staunch allies. Reasonably excuse.

Think of something clever to say.

You could go with the Imperial Fists or the Black Templars, both of whom are mobile chapters. Another chapter that's fleet based, and therefore eligible to show up anywhere, is the Carcharodons Astra. With their reputation for extreme brutality and their indulgence in the worst aspects of the 'warrior nobility' character traits, they would make excellent enemies for the Tau in a tactical sense, and excellent foils for them in a literary sense. Especially if you want the Tau to seem sympathetic or to play up the 'brutality of man' theme. Even if your players are fighting against the Tau, you can use the difference to showcase why the humans might see the Tau as their saviors.

In any event, good luck, and I hope that helps!

The Iron Knights are noted for there siege warfare there home planets location is unknown so you could just move them to the Eastern Fringe in your fluff hope this helps.

if you cant find one you can always make it up theirs enough home brewed chapters to let it slide. hel even just make it a chapter being founded for the express purpose of dealing with the tau and other xenos .

Don't tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

I think I'll go with the Carcharodons Astra; as it was pointed out, they're almost the direct opposite of the Tau's average mindset.

Actually, the players aren't fighting against the Tau, they're part of it!

I was working up a NPC Tau XV-22 Stealth Commander (this is *just* before the 4th Sphere Expansion;
4th Ed Tau Commader-level Tech is more common), and needed a Chapter to help fluff him up.

If the PCs are working with the Tau, then one of the more brutal chapters (like the Carcharodons Astra) would definitely work well. Good luck!

A goooooooooooood choice my friend. They're one terrifying chapter that just loves indiscriminate carnage.
