My CSM army is Chosen Heavy (Abaddon), and for a little model variety, I am arming one with a Power Sword. My current plan is to use the Dark Vengeance Chaos Lord as the Chosen Champion (complete with Plasma Pistol, but that is easily swapped). Is it common to proxy a model like this? Would I catch any grief from tournament players (small town tournaments probably) for doing this? I'm sure I could cobble together a model if so, but I like the way he looks and he fits the Chosen theme so well.

It depends on the Tournament. In a friendly game most people won't have a problem with it.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
Orks always ride in single file to hide their strength and numbers.

I'll probably roll with it until it becomes a problem. I'm hoping that GW releases a boxed set of chosen during some future wave so I have more options - as it stands unless you're using the Dark Vengeance Power Weapon models, every Chosen is some sort of Proxy or modded heavily.

It should never be a problem. Using a lord as a champions make it stand out a lot more and looks crazy awesome. As long as you make clear which lords are HQ choices and which champions you should be fine. At the end of the day they are still marines in different poses so there is nothing wrong with them.

Yeah, fortunately he's the only lord model in the army, so he won't be confused with an HQ.

Nothing on the model prevents him from being a squad champ. He has no special specific gear. Power sword and a plasma pipstol. Can a chosen champ take these? Yes. Your fine and no one would say anything to you ever other than to just bust your B's.

Your starter box HQ makes a good looking chosen champion. The first person to complain will be someone beat/are beating.

Interesting idea. I've gone on a bits buying craze recently in order to change the boltgun carrying starter chosen so that I don't have a bunch of identical units. It's been fun mixing and matching a bit.
