I noticed that there are many people who are scared of using their own custom made models and have the belief that they HAVE to use the main GW model or else they will get killed or something

for example look at Brandon Palmer,

he used an astropath for this Elysian Army(lets ignore the fact that he probably knows NOTHING of the fluff seeing that Elysians don't use Astropaths and the fact that his veterans are missing the red stripe that indicates their veteran status) but the thing is is that he used the default GW model for the astropath which looks completely out of place and overrall just makes the army look bad

I mean, he could of converted a vox caster with a long range ground scanner or something like that but no

Nothing REQUIRES him to do it though. The inquisition isn't knocking on his door to purge him.

If he did it this way, more power to him.

The only thing to really hate about his army is the paintjob. While it is well painted, it doesn't do the sculpt any favors.

Also, it's his army so it's his rules. Unless he said directly that he hates converting this is more of a matter of aesthetic choices.

Fluff wise, it could be possible that these aren't actual Elysians but rather another regiment using their uniform pattern. Maybe they were fighting on an aqua tinted world and had to paint over their armor. Maybe that astropath is a temporary attachment rather than a member of the regiment.

Thought for the day: Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I can think of a few reasons why someone might not want to bother converting: saving money (especially if you want parts from more than one kit), perceived lack of ability (though practice makes perfect and kitbashes are easy enough), and an unwillingness to risk damaging a model you've paid for.

Example: I didn't want any bare heads in my Space Marine army. I bought the Finecast Terminator Librarian and was fortunate enough to get a flawlessly cast model. I realised that if I tried a head swap I would probably damage the area of the psychic hood around the head and have to repair the damage, which looked fiddly and beyond any GS skills I might have, and that would have been a £15 model spoiled...!

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

Some folk don't enjoy converting (even though they may enjoy playing/painting)

Some folk can't do conversions (eg eye problems, hand problems) even if they can still do a very basic paint job

Converting costs more (especially if you're just starting as you don't have bits lying around)

Some people think official models only (even if you're using them as something else it's better than a converted or other manufactuers piece)

Lack of confidence (if you don't think you can do it you may not try)

Real lack of talent some people just can't do some things (if you really have tried, and tried and tried again and still produce horrible junk you'll eventually give up)

random other reasons I've not thought of

It could be because we're paying around three dollars for a little man made out of plastic and we don't want to risk destroying it and not being able to use it anymore?

So... the fact that someone. somewhere, chose to use a standard model somehow suggests that a whole bunch of people are 'scared' of converting?

Ridiculous premise is ridiculous. Moving on.
