considered dropping alot of toys off squig bosses, getting a ng big boss with standard of discipline/common goblin boss and putting both in 1 NG block.
I realize it's not the most competitive, but I figure it'll be fun. Considering a snotling pump wagon also? Figure could fit into the squig cult theme for the army. Figured it might actually be a viable alternate target for redudancy.
figure 10 squig hoppers 2 bosses rush forward in either 1 or 2 packs, can random jump off and charge 4 targets (not that they'd win), not to mention the 2 manglers, and the wagon if I brought it for further redundancy to protect the herds/goblin blocks from being shot as they advanced

I originally had my general and BSB squig mounted tooled up with 10 hoppers, and no characters on foot aside from a shaman. I dropped this idea going back to a common goblin warboss +1 ld bsb on foot in a block of goblins.
So this time was thinking maybe just a single lvl 1 w/ scroll? might be a little light on the magic but, little wagh seems to be quite hit or miss for me. if I roll bad moon/vindictive glare/itchy nuisance/spider god it's alright, not to fond of the others. although i see how night shroud could help my list get across the board
I just got all my squigs in the mail, so currently this is my count...
10 hoppers
103 squigs
1 mangler
2 bosses on squigs (1 with sword, 1 w/ spear)
I'll have to make a mangler out of 2 of the 103 squigs, probably just magnetize a 60mm and base it so I can use hoppers or squigs depending on which I don't need at the time and stick em on there with an extra goblin.
So thinking of creative ways to get more squigs on the board for this upcoming tournament...
1. night goblin wolf riders, (I think i have 8-10 wolf models) being chased by squigs? (figured extra chaff be nice, add to redudancy of things that have to be dealt with quickly... 2 manglers, hoppers 2 bosses and wolves, not to mention if i added a pump wagon or chariot?)

3. squig pump wagon (thinking a cage on wheels full of squigs, with a spiky rolla wood chipper pushing food into the cage for them) ^^
I'm trying to fit as many squigs as I can, while keeping a lot of variety. I figure that with the 2 manglers pushing forward, with the 5 hoppers/ 2 bosses that will be 3 targets they can split off and bounce into while the manglers get the attention of cannons etc?
Some received advice online for this list... (including to include the warboss/bsb on foot and let my squig characters be expendable)
1. drop 1 50 man block and replace with 3 20 man archer blocks with musicians only
(I see this as a viable choice, if I drop 1 50 man block thats 225 points. so 3 20 man blocks with musicians would be 210... I want an excuse to model some fellas with hw/shields though for variety so... if I did 1 archer block thats 70, leaving 155 points... I could do 27 goblins, hw/shields, nets, full command for 156.)
2. add skarsnik
275 points is alot for him. I could drop the common gobbo saving myself 71 points. with 500 limit, I can bring 2 squig bosses with bare min equip (LA,spear,shield) for 208, and skarsnik 275 .. but would force me to take a lvl 2 shaman over a level 3 as I would be at 483/500 lords (could always drop 1 warboss on squig to a hero level and lose 1 init, atttack, and ws, saving myself 20 pts).. but that would only free up 121 of the 140 min needed for a lvl 3. so... kinda think skarsnik is too much for 2000 points with as many squigs as I'd like to bring.
3. add a lvl 4 ng sham
just don't think I have the points. currently I just have the level 1, would love to bump him up to 2 or 3 if I could find points
4. more magic items/ways to kill ethereal
possibly drop spear on 4+ ward squig boss and give him a cheap magic weapon?
5. add shield to general/bsb
doesn't seem proppa! I want my goblins to cause fears in the hearts of their foes with their S6 hits!

I like Skarsnik. I think he's a perfect example of an SC. He isn't a combat god, though he has a lot of wounds and KB, but no saves at all. But he's a (random) force multiplier. His schemes can mess up an enemy. And tricksy can help out that many squigs. He's got a great LD and he's squig-based. Not many people will want to challenge him because of his KB and really solid stats. And it also gives you something to throw power dice at with his wand. Even though it's not that great.
I like squigs in general because they are the cheapest Str. 5 units in the game (I think).
I can't say it's good or bad. I think it's not very balanced. You can do all kinds of fluffy stuff. Take a stone thrower and make it a squig thrower. If you're really ambitious you can make an Arachnarok Squig. Forgeworld has a collossal Squig that would work. You could have some really big Squigs be counts-as Trolls. Etc.

Yeah this list is extremely unbalanced, but I figure a squig cult might be a bit unbalanced. I've more or less accepted I'm giving away $10 to play a few games, so I just want to have the best fun I can with the theme.
I don't have the skarnsnik model but suppose I could use my OOP gobbla and a NG warboss on a 3x2 base. and continue scouring ebay.
If I do bring him, I think I will definitely have to re arrange my strategy with my goblins, the 20 archers / 30 hw/ 50 spears (or 50 spears x 2) just won't work I'm afraid. I think I will have to bring more archers.
I had planned on doing a squig o lobba, but, honestly, in the one game I have used it, it performed poorly. I think it killed 2 flamers all game before misfiring and blowing up. Need to give it more chances.
I have a doom diver I have modeled up to be a squig slingshot (some pix in gallery) so I could try and fit that in as well.
I was hesitant to bring a arack (giant self sculpted squig, no offense to FW lots of pretty stuff but the colossal squig is fugly imho)... mainly because I was afraid I wouldn't complete it in time for the tournament, and I don't have a GW base for it ... and... cannonballs. lol
Just afraid of plopping it down and losing it in 1-2 turns to cannon fire.
I suppose that would protect my manglers, hoppers, and great cave squig bosses for a round or 2 though... and if i make a squig themed pump wagon or 2 (or chariots) i could make a pretty redundant rush? Considering 5 wolf riding night goblins bein chased by squigs as well... they vanguard while chariots don't right?
So if I take skarsnik, my understanding is I can flee then on next turn if I rally I still can move and shoot per normal? So it would benefit me most to run 3 blocks of 20 goblins with just musicians?
I will have to give skarsnik another look. I also really want to bump the shaman up to lvl 2-3.

I think the collossal squig looks great. I've seen one in real life. It isn't the same base size as arachnarok, I don't think even close, so that's an issue. But I also think the arachnarok is one of the best monsters in 8th. You might not need it with so many Str5 squigs, though. And you're going to have issues maneuvering as it is. Which is why some war machines wouldn't hurt.
Again look at Skarsnik's stats and compare them to nearly any other O&G hero. He'd wipe the floor with them.
I'm not as sure on his rally tactic. It seems like it works like they automatically make a Swift Reform (p95) without having to roll for it. Though they still have to rally. The best thing is there's no range limit, he just has to be on the board. But you might post this on you make the call to see if that's right. Still, there's benefits to musicians.

I absolutely love their squig rider, the squig hopper statue is beautiful as well... the idol of mork, gorgeous... but the colossal squig?? for some reason I just, really really dislike it.
I'm just a squig-bigot i guess.
In all honesty though, the model is a bit too serious for me. it just doesn't have the goofy air that I want in my squigs.
This chap has something more in lines of what I think I would try
few different ones I saw. never saw finished products, but they kind of exemplify the goofy character I wish I saw in the FW collosal squig (granted the sculpting quality isn't comparable)
I feel like I will have some issues maneuvering as well... Which greatly reduces the need for the giant squig yet..
but it will be created...
I'll double check his stats. I'm really afraid that actual melee monster characters like tooled up vampires, etc may wipe floor with him in challenges? I'm rather new to fantasy, and have been operating on assumption that no goblin character will really stand up to a lot of other armies characters? I have been afraid I'll get into a challenge with skarsnik against a vampire, demon, chaos lord, or something like that with more than 6 attacks, higher initiative than I, killing skarsnik before he even swings. I'll have to double check his and gobblas init values, but maybe my fear is overblown.
I will double check the fleeing rules regarding skarsnik as well.
Thanks duke. Do you know if people frown on custom made bases matching the appropriate size supplied with model? For instance, I don't want to buy a arak spider kit or just the base, as they seem expensive. will people whine and cry if I make my base out of balsa wood, plasticard, etc? as long as its appropriately sized?

Different people have different ideas on what is acceptable. If it's the appropriate size, I say who cares. You might want to call your local stores and see what they say. You might be able to find some stuff on ebay too.
He's got a lot of wounds. Not much is going to straight up kill him before he attacks and not much is going to want to challenge 4 KB attacks and 4 regular all at good I/WS/S. Only monsters will and then you'll have to hide.

This is what I playtested 3 turns last night, seemed to be doing well. Finishing game tonight so will see how it ends.
playing against a buddies dwarves.
It's been pretty un-nervous on my side up until my general/ bsb/50 goblins just got swept/overran or whatever from a thane, 3 hammerers, and 15 miners in the flank.... steadfast LD9 man... with a reroll..
So that change has made it a game for sure.

The chariots performed well, one killing a cannon, and currently set for a long rear charge into some thunderers (if mangler squig doesn't plow thru them killing them/panicking them before he finally shows up).. The other killed an organ gun, then fled when charged by thunderers (trying to set up flank charge for spear goblins) and he would still be withing bsb/general range to rally.
Pump wagon died before making contact, something had to I suppose.
The chariots/wagons/manglers left my boss on squig completely unmolested, took some small arms fire from thunderers or quarrelers and his retinue of squigs died, but that was it so far.
I'm liking this list. I think having a rock lobba for hitting artilerry T1 would be nice (or large blocks) I just have terrible luck with it it seems.
I suppose a spear chukka could perform a similar duty for a fraction of cost.
I could drop the magic armor from BSB as well, not sure if I should though I like the protection on him
I also feel that without bringing skarnsik, the 20 archers are kind of a waste. Unless I merely use them as chaff, or get the poison spell. so that could free up 70 points, 35 from the equip on bsb... 105 points..,,, that's a whole warboss on squig with spear/shield/la... or 2 chariots! Hmmm don't want to get too caught up in a boring amout of redundancy like my original list, so afraid to just load up on chariots... (hell have to buy/build em too.)

so after some more playing last weekend and talking to people here I'm going to try something's new to me Sunday. I ran wizard had in a couple games and loved it. Got chain lightning vs demons killing 6 plague bearers 2 wounds on prince, and 4 blood letters in one go! Other game I got dwellers ! Which was always dispelled or failed to cast (never got more than 4 on my winds of magic)

Well the tourney has come and gone! It was brutal! Absolutely brutal! No terribly funny wizard hat shenanigans either, some neat things happened with the battleaxe of the last waaagh though. Luck was definitely not on my side this day. I don't necessarily know if sleep deprivation played a roll, but it may have. brothers stupid ex gal caused a bunch of drama night before, was up till 3:30 am with police, then finally asleep at 5:30 am.. to get up at 8:30 am to go hang iron until 11:30 then at tourney at 12:45... I was exhausted before my first game but dedicated to attending to show my buddies how to lose in style.
Decided to run this: (the wm build was so boring, didn't wanna have too many units standing around doing nothing.. the wizard hat and battle axe just, "fun" to me.. next tourney is 3000 think Ill give the axe to a goblin on a wolf, along with another terror mask)

Game 1 Vs Nurgle demons Loss 23-1
(3 drones x 2, horde of 40~ plaguebearers epidemus and a bsb, 5 furies, skull cannon and a winged demon prince)

I felt very comfortable playing against this army as I play against it regularly. Dawn attack ruined my plans. big time. Not to mention the first magic phase. due to that and how spread out I was, the nature of the game was pre-determined more or less I felt. I tried playing very defensively and let him come to me but, it didn't matter.
due to vanguards he was able to get on entire my left flank while my artillery was directly across from him (minus a doom diver on my far right flank) .. and my entire army in right flank more or less, so he picked off my units 1 by one by whichever was closest. I concentrated all my shooting into the demon prince that I could, bringing it down to 2 wounds.. I managed to kill 84 points of furies, 2 drones, and put 2 wounds on a 3rd drone... and a handful of plaguebearers trying to get epi to fail a 4+ LOS (which got rez'd anyhow)... while he pretty much tabled me. 22-1 was the score. 20 for massacre +2 for bonus stuff. i got +1 for not miscasting a spell or some random thing... This game was actually a really good setup for me. My wizard hat got pit of shades, and some other decent shadow spell, and was actually geared up to take some stuff down. I figured between his DD, vindicitive glare, and ruby ring (since dp flew close enough) I could get down that beast.... (maybe with the help of 60 archers).... I was never given the chance. He lowered my toughness by D3, which I let go thru as he had 7 dice left and I knew he would cast the d6 hits, T test, then d6 hits again if fail... and the flamer T test... so I saved all my 7 dice for one of those, and my scroll for the other..... So he throws 5 dice at the d6 hits, and gets double 6s, I fail 9 toughness test, and lost 23 night goblins, 3 fanatics, wizard hat boss, and dispel scroll lvl 2 sham in one swoop!. way to start the game/day off! lol
I was nearly tabled. at end of game I had my spear bus alive still with no bosses in it. (1 drone in front, DP in flank) ... also fun notes from game, warpstorm table killed my squig boss, a mangler squigg, and a spear chukka in a single turn when he rolled whatever # did it, single turn. Ouch... another turn rolled boxcars and summoned a healthy sized squad of plaguebearers behind my doom diver in far corner .. doh also rolled a 6 on battle axe vs. the drones.. so S10 A10 Ws 2 vs Ws 4 with -1 to hit... rolled 2 hits out of 10 dice...  only needed 5s!

2 Organ guns, 3 cannons, hell maybe 4, 2-3 grudge throwers, anvil, 40 quarrelers tons of re rolls on his WM's
He put his 1 block in a building , everything else on edge of board as far back as possible. I died halfway up the field. failed 2 animosities, got hit by anvil and movement halved on stuff that got closer than rest. My big block of 50+ bosses got stuck out of range of bsb/general due having to push forward with my general block and they panicked and ran halfway back to my side then turned around to die to catapults)
none of his stuff got held in reserve while my wizard hat, block of 23 goblins, battle axe of last waagh, and squig boss all did
Had we a normal deployment it would of been more of a match, it was a pretty disheartening/unfun game on my end. The fella was really nice etc, I knew what was about to happen, just like watching a car crash, well, a toy car crash.
Throughout game I did 2 wounds to an organ gun. That was it. I never shot a bow, never swung in melee (or even got close enough to declare a charge), never got a spell off. just walked and removed models/took panic tests/missed with my artillery/failed to wound.
I got lore of light this game, got the DD spell, and the -1 to enemy shooting/4+ for auto hit shooting units to even fire.. which was a good draw vs the organ guns, but never once got cast successfully.. (thinking back on it I did manage to get 1 spell of this game with IF 2 dicing the DD from light.... guess what happend? rolled a 4 on miscast. then a 1. Wizard sucked into abyss, 9 of his cohorts died as well >.<

Normal battle line deployment, I got lore of metal, the DD and enchating blades or some nonsense.
Managed to shoot the arack down before it saw combat, he suicided 8/10 savage boar boys onto a mangler, his 2 savages then charged my pump wagon who was 1" short of them, and it died to instability, over ran too close to NG and died to fanatics. my other mangler was in mid field blocking charges from savages and boys to my goblins who were creepingly advancing. (i left my squigs in a forest, forgetting the magical forest stuff as we never remember it and it rolled up as poison attacks and DT.. so I just left them there to guard WM)... My squig boss charged into front of boar boys, lost combat, broke, and they charged him next turn, catching him/killing him but leaving flank exposed to squigs who auto make the charge). He moves his block into squig to kill it, losing a whoppin 8 savages (seagull motion). Charges into my NG buss and gets hit by a single fanatic from bunker behind them, while other 2 fall short (should shot em thru my own damn bus, whatever).. Start combat, my warboss rolls a 6 on axe, gets 10 S10 WS3 attacks against wurzag. He does 7 wounds, Wurzag passes 5 saves. SOB. I win combat by a bit, next round wurzag eats it, each round he kills a big boss or 2,... I hold this position until I have just the battleaxe boss left (with 1 wound left, making 2 saves on last turn with a 6+ reg then a 6+ ward on other) and hes down to a single rank vs 40~ goblins and still have my other 2 blocks positioned to flank.. my squigs eat 5/9 boar riders they break, and are cut down. Call game there.
Was nice to get one win in there but I hate seeing other greenskins lose, being a greenskin myself. He got really unlucky with me getting those saves at end on my boss but the 160 point swing wouldn't of made a difference.
All in all it was a fun time, I was really tired. I will continue to take the wizard hat every game, because, eventually I will get transformation of kadon. Until then, all the other fun stuff I get, will be happenstances until the one time I do manage to get it.....

3rd to last is sadly where I expected night goblins to come in.
Fairly ineffective magic, combined with serious leadership issues and no real hammers.
Fun to play, in a marshmellow fight sort of way; not something to bring to a knife fight.

Hey, this all sounds pretty awesome to me--I have also been toying around with the possibility of a heavily Night Goblin list, and your experimentation shed a lot of light on the possibilities. Here are my thoughts:
First of all, I think you still have to try to build as balanced a list as you can, which should include the stone throwers (you could have Night Goblin crew, and could have them throwing Squigs, as suggested), and probably some shooting by the archers. They're cheap and, as a friend told me before my first game with that starter set all those years ago, "they don't hit as often as elves, but when they do, they hit just as hard."
Magic is another thing that is a challenge, but I liked how you had more characters (including a wide variety of bosses) in your tournament list. I think you have got to keep it in there if only to prevent your opponent from totally dominating that phase of the game.
Beyond that, I think you have to get some hard hitting units in there--especially Squig Herds. They are tough, hit really hard, and are not that expensive. Your initial idea of a Horde of them was awe-inspiring, and I think the pair of Mangler squigs would also have terrified people. You have to be able to kill the enemy when you get there, and unfortunately most NG units just don't do that very well without the Squig support.
I have also been toying around with creating a Night Goblin Araknarok--a cave-dwelling spider, with mushroom motif rather than feathers and stuff. That would give some Monster-y goodness to your list for sure.

I do have to say though, I think my standings would have been better had I got scenario 1 and 2 switched vs same opponents... I could of castled in corner and let the demons come to me.. when against the dwarves I had a 29" walk to the closest unit of his (40 quarrelers in a building).. and a 34" walk to closest war machine... (and distance just get growing due to terrain/deployment type)... dawn attack vs. that dwarf army would have been better for me for sure, as I would of at least not been on that dang diag. (checked it out after laying deployment out on autocad).. even if he deployed on board edge and gave me a 34~" walk forward to WM... I would have more units in proximity to the WM in question, as opposed to what I got dealt. but hey, that's how the cookie crumbles. battle axe of the last waagh is a pretty "knifey" item, though the wielder is a glass cannon. (I realize he will not stand up to vamps, DPS, anything fighty, but against RnF, and other low I, low T, low ws, no ward havin mah f's.. He does help generate a lot of combat rez. .considered putting the axe on a common boss on wolf, but the lower init discouraged me.. as well as wanting to bring skarsnik in my 3k list (can't fit him wiz hat boss and battle axe boss in 750 lords :( ) so ones gotta get the boot... (was gonna say "ones gotta get the axe" as a pun, but felt it would be daft and confusing) If I did keep axe, and put it on a wolf, would take another boss with terror mask and put him in other wolf rider unit I think? When I entered my first 2 tournies with more squig heavy lists, I did heaps better, actually playing on top tables in one until getting matched against a particularly kunnin way more veteran than myself orc player and getting stomped. In comparison to the performance of this list I can easily see why. The squigs are my hammer/trolls. I have to bring em. Simply put. I may even "cheat" and bring the big waaagh... I know I know. heresy. but.. I have a 1987 NG mounted model with a whip... who fits perfectly on the shoulders of an orc shaman model.... wheres the  whistle face? Since i don't know the big waaagh from a hole in the wall, I figure I should ask. Should I stick with leaving the orc shaman on foot with my NG out to side ? (also normal shaman or savage? savages only benefit is ward save for himself and bonus save if with savages right?) I have a savage shaman on boar/9 savages on boars with spears I could bring that are all painted already but... that really breaks the goblin theme. So I'm thinking the lad on foot with the NG on his shoulders whipping him is the way of the future... So at 3000 this is my current thought... 664/750 lords Skarsnik Wizard hat NG boss GW lvl 4 NG shaman, earthin rod, talisman of protectyness, ironcurse 267/750 ng big boss hw/shield/la, std of discp ng big boss gw ruby ring ng big boss gw terror mask ng shaman lvl 1 dispel scroll 750/750 min (only spent 735 here, 15 points budgeted still) 5 wolf riders bows 5 wolf riders bows 50 NG spears nets FC (bus) 50 NG bows nets FC 3 fanatics (horde) (skarsnik, bsb, ruby ring, terror mask go here (terror mask maybe a mistake here, my thoughts is I don't want this expensive block getting charged by terror casuer and flee.. 30 NG bows musician (bunker for 2 casters, can go horde as well in case skarsniks bites the dust (for d6 s6 shots instead of d3) special 659/1500 Squig hoppers 60 squig hoppers 60 squig herd 1 26/9 (7 wide 5 deep) squig herd 2 11/4 (5x3) squig herd 3 11/4 (5x3) (herds 2 and 3 could be combined for a 22/8 in a 6x5) squig herd 4 7/3 (5x2) spear chukka rare: 660/750 lobba x 2 diver x 2 mangler x 4 pump wagon flappas rolla I have never seen Tropic Thunder Sneaky, but maybe I oughta! Honestly I was ready for a drink when we hit our lunch break. Luckily my friend lived near by and could accommodate lol. The 2nd match was vs. dwarves and boy howdy.. That was a tough game to try and keep a smile on my face! @panth I was bringing some more balanced lists when playing competitively but have been experimenting lately with extremes. Like WM heavy lists, didn't care much for was boring to play. When I bring tons of squigs same thing sorta, combat after combat with no randomness isn't a ton of fun. I don't care to win combat all the time, just want it to keep going so the fun continues. I however have been thinking about how to cram as many squigs into this list as possible so if you guys have any ideas shoot... I should have about 130 squigs last time I counted, coming in at a wopping 1040 points w/o herders. I have to use 6 of them for manglers if I don't get my ping pong ball fellas finished in time though. This list only contains 55. Hoppers aren't great, but they do serve some purpose. I figure that with 2 lobbas, a chukka, 2 divers and 80 bows I should have a bit of shooting while I advance/the enemy advances.. couples with fireball, skarsniks prodda, vindictive glare most likely, and hopefully a DD from the wiz hat.. thats 4 DD's a turn.. if I can manage to not roll a <4 for winds of magic all the time Now if I add the night goblin ridden orc shaman.... I would have to change list a bit, but could add a bit of punch/diversity to my magic phase.. Thanks for all the replies/interest/advice fellas.
