Hey everyone~

Starting on a new project, as I am a defect from Fantasy to 40k. I understand my plan is going to brush some hairs the wrong way, from the SM Fanboys, but I'm not exactly the first to want to do female space marines.

*pause to allow the fanboys to explode*

That being said, I am working on a Valkyrie theme, from mythology. Inspired by it as much as I can muster but still sticking to the WYSIWYG rules, and staying in the theme of 40k, as I don't think just having elven women or females running around with no armor and tiny wooden shields would fly realistically.

I am hoping to use light blue for the power armor pieces, and white/gray for the cloaks/robes of the Dark Angels.

I have added wings to the Deathwing Knight models, and modified a lance from the Skullcrushers of Khorne on one to see how it would look.

Here is the beginning of a gallery, there are a few test models, with only a few pictures of the paint theme i was thinking.

Be as brutal as you'd like, I'd rather have honest opinions on what I could do differently, what might improve it, etc.

Thank you.

Knights with wings look ace!

For me, the joy is in putting some good-looking models on the board and playing out a fantasy battle - not arguing over the poorly-made rules of some 3rd party who neither has any power over my play nor will be visiting me (and my opponent) to ensure we are "playing by the rules"

Plan is for the "elite" units to have the large wings, and captains to have smaller wings, more for decoration than function. Using Dark Eldar warriors (female) for the scouts in the army as they have little armor.

Bikes will be kit-bashed mechanical horses made from Skeleton horses from fantasy with watch parts. I'll post pictures once I start in on that project

I like the idea and the Valkyrie theme is a rich one that stylewise can be easily fitted into Warhammer 40k. I also like that you seem to stick with just headswaps for your females. (Which probably sounds crazy if you look into my female CSM gallery ) I don't think that sculpted boobs on loyalists look right. And on top of that it is hard sculpting power armored boobs and avoid the "rocket boob syndrome".

What i have seen on other topics like that in regard to exploding fanboys is that it mostly starts while trying to create a backstory for why there are female astartes. (This is the reason why mine are chaos ones. I can just say: 'Slaanesh did it.' and stop there )

The wings and cloaks tie in perfectly with the Valkyrie theme and the color scheme also looks promising. But the blue on the one with a darker blue looks very unclean and dusty. This might be the result from using drybrishing as highlight. You have to be either very carefull in doing that or don't do it to begin with and use line highlighting. And you might consider shading the eyes some more. Currently she just looks eyeless. And if you have a steady hand you could also try to add a small black spot for the eye.

And the link you postes isn't clickeable directly. But you should probably add pictures directly into this topic. It looks nicer that way. And as far as i know you can add links to flickr so that the pics are directly visible. Or just use your gallery here on dakka.

Good start so far. Keep us updated.

@Doomhammer

Thank you for the advice! I like to think that having oversized marine armor fits better, you could just say that the armor is larger inside to compensate for the smaller stature of the females, or that they are beastly amazon women, whichever

The faces are a big trouble area for me, so I am going to take it step by step and use a tutorial to get some details, as I've never done an army that isn't all wearing helmets.

As far as the blue, I'd have to agree with you, I put up the bad pictures (bad meaning I just wasn't happy with the results) so I can see everything next to each other as it goes on, then once I find one I like, stick to it.

For faces i used this guide. It helped me put together this model with my limited painting experience. It is still unfinished(especially the hair). But as far as the face go i used the tips given in the link and it worked out fine. (The head itself looks a little bit strange as this was a very early try of sculpting female heads.)

Hope this helps you.

Those valkyrie knights look awesome! Where are the wings from?

@Tommse

The wings are from the Sangiunary Guard from the Blood angels, little green stuff on the back and it melded in pretty well, without any worries of breaking off.

I uploaded some pictures to my gallery of my first attempt at the color scheme I was looking at (the model without a head)

Thoughts on any of them would be appreciated.

Alright, I've come to a problem area for me, I have tried a few different color schemes out and the ones that I've tried aren't working, so I am looking to you guys for advice.

Power Armor:
Ice Blue base
blue wash
white highlights on edges.

Robes:
Dark gray base
Light gray wash
white highlighting on high points of robes.

This the closest I've come to something I like, but the armor is lacking something over the washed blue, advice?
