I was thinking the only feasible option would be a DP with wings/Black Mace/Power Armor to get in and kill as quick as possible to active the Key for my DS units to get in with ease.
But is there any other HQ this would be useful on or at least worth putting on?

Has anyone had any experience with it on other IC?

I've only used the key a couple times so far, but have had success using it on a bike lord.

The usual loadout I give my lord is MoN, black mace, sigil of corruption, and blight grenades. Possibly VotLW, depending on points and who I'm expecting to fight. Then I put him with 3-5 nurgle spawn as an escort. After adding the dimensional key he ends up being pretty spendy (almost as much as Typhus), but he is extremely survivable.

I've also been working on a squad of bikers to put him with. That way I'd have a champion to take the challenges first round, so the lord can decimate the squad quickly.

really the only effective use of the dimensional key is to leave it at home every time. It's one of kelly's broken items

This. Sure it sounds awesome when you read it but those points can be much better used elsewhere

For the points cost I do think it's kind of weak, but I could see it being used as a 1 trick pony one day if you went with a deepstrike heavy army. IG parking lot comes to mind, or an army hiding behind an Aegis.

I've had opponents complain about how overpowered it seemed, especially when combined with the black mace on a lord.

Forcing opponents to treat terrain as difficult and dangerous makes it a lot harder for them to try move out of your assaulting unit's threat range. Obviously makes it harder for them charge you, as well.

The keyy is very poorly designed. The few times I managed to use it, it was further gimped that many opponents will not have good non-vehicle targets ready to be charged, even if you pull off a turn 2 charge. Odds are you'll be seeing rhinos, chimeras and other mech on the table early on, and breaking those will not activate the key.

In Boxing matches, you actually get paid to take a dive and make the other guy look good.

In Warhammer 40K, you're expected to pay cash out of your pocket for the privilege of having Marines and IG trample all over your Xenos/Chaos.
