Subject: Should I repurpose my Space Wolves Leman Russ Exterminator?

I have a Leman Russ Exterminator that I bought for my Space Wolves force back in 3rd edition. When I bought it, it was fully part of the army. The box even included Space Wolf Decals.
Now, I've started a small IG force that I use mostly as allies. Doing this, I've been able to play with the tank again in 6th and have had a blast. I've been playing it with the Pask upgrade considering it "driven by Grey Hunters" or without, considering it "driven by Blood Claws".
Now that I've had my fun with it and now that my IG army is really getting up and going, should I repurpose the tank to be IG? The paint job on the tank is fairly bad, so losing out on that isn't much of an issue. It's more the nostalgia of having a Space Wolf Leman Russ that really has me teetering between repurposing it and leaving it as is.
Thoughts?

Just play it in your IG army without repainting it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

Yeah, I would leave it. Given GW's habits, it's entirely possible that the Russ will find its way back into a future codex sooner or later...

There is something to be said for redoing something better a 2nd time. If painting is part of the hobby that is fun, and painting the Russ would be enjoyable, I'd say do it.

Let's see a picture. That'll help us decide.
Here's my old Leman Russ:

Updated SW Colors? You mean just crisper and cleaner? Keep in mind that pic is mine, not his.

Wasn't talking about your LR, just to the OP (he said it was a wanting/dated paint job). By updated I just meant the washed/darker SW look that the newwer codicies show as compared to the bright pale 2nd/3rd edition SW. Automatically Appended Next Post:

All right, time to embarrass myself and post a pic
Note this was painted 10 or 11 years ago, and I've gotten better since then. I've noticed the poll is split 50/50 on what I should do, but those that took the time to post a reply have mentioned keeping it Space Wolf. Perhaps a pic of the beast might help!

Keep it SW but add a greh hunter sarge out the top, icon it up, and update the paint job.
Btw how practiced are you at striping paint?

@lobukia: I love the old scheme.
That isn't so bad, you could go either way. How likely are you to field it in your guard army?

I've never stripped paint before, and on a mixed plastic/metal model I'd be a bit hesitant. Any advice there would be appreciated! Links to other posts included! It seems my search fu here on dakka is a bit weak
Since my current IG force is so small, I've been fielding it almost all the time. I plan on extensively expanding my IG force to be in the 3k to 3.5k range, but for now it's the only Leman Russ I've got.
I suppose putting a Grey Hunter popping out the top is a good idea. As much as Pretre may see the age of his Leman Russ Exterminator, I definitely like the pose of the Wolf Guard in Power Armor he use on top of it! I have that model with power fist on foot, but I bet another "extra" Grey Hunter can fulfill the task

I say keep it SW colours. You could always justify it as a SW tank in an IG which was the only support the Wolves had available for you IG at the time (or if you include a SW detachment that it's part of that).
Or that it's a permanent SW attachment to your IG force to pay off an honour debt that the SW incurred to said Guard regiment when the Wolves bit more than they could chew and the Guard pulled their bacon out of the fire. Be a nice turn-around to the usual "Marines 'pod in to save the day" .

Stripping paint is a no-brainer.
Just spent the past week stripping a bunch of 1999 and older models (Vehicles) for my Horus Heresy army. Had a old Whirlwind (plastic rhino body with the metal missile launchers) with two layers of primer, and a layer of paint over that, plus detailing. All I did was submerge it in Purple Power (degreaser you can get at Home Depot/Loews) in a tupperware container, and left it in my garage for a night and a half. Yesterday it was as simple as brushing off the paint with an old toothbrush.
Two layers of primer and it came off just like it was some wet tissue-paper someone had lain on my model.
TLDR: Purple Power is the bomb.

Yeah I agree, stripping is pretty easy. I've never done it on a vehicle, but I did strip some Long Fangs that were painted with house paint so thick you couldn't see any detail. Three layers too! If you work anywhere that has disposable gloves, they're very useful. I nabbed a box from the lab, but I think that's more to do with me not wanting to put yellow rubber gloves on like a frustrated old house-wife. The lazy person in me says: If you have a thin coat you can just re-spray with primer and start again. Even faster than stripping, but if you painted it when you were young, like most of us as kids we slapped the paint on by the bucket.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
