Subject: DE codex; get it now or wait?

I'd like to start up a DE army in the future and I'm trying to decide if it's safe to pick up the codex now or if I should wait until I'm actually ready to start the army. that wouldn't be for several months as I want to get my chaos army to a playable state before I start collecting a third army. I haven't seen any rumors to indicate a new DE codex in the near future, but I'm far from well-informed about these things (yes, I've read the GW thread in News & Rumors). money's not a huge issue, but I'd be pretty peeved to buy it this weekend and see a new codex come out three months later if you weren't going to start collecting models for a few months, would you wait on the codex or go for it anyway?

On average a codex has to wait at least 6 years until it gets updated, often longer. You'll likely get several years out of the Dark Eldar codex.

I'd say go ahead and get the codex. It's relatively inexpensive. It would give you plenty of time to familiarize yourself with the units - make lists and such.
And there won't be a new codex for a long time...at least half a dozen armies will be updated before DE.

Chances are it will be a good 2-3 years at least before it gets updated again. though with the quick updates this year who knows.

Get it now, It'll be awhile and it will give you time to read up and buy what you think you'll use. or maybe get on ebay or the swap shop and find an army deal with a codex included. Hopefully SoB end up getting a codex update before DE and they dont even have one scheduled yet.

I'd get the codex then get the army. Lots of reading and seeing what you like. They won't update it for a good while so don't worry.

I'd say that it depends.
On the one hand, you could get the rules and start really becoming familiar with it and talking with people about it. The problem, though, is that you're going to have nowhere near the patience and energy to think things through as when you're actually painting or playing games. If you crash before you really even start, that's a bad thing.
On the other hand, if you wait to really get into it until you're already painting, and making it a cohesive push, then you'll have the most interest, focus, and energy for it. It will be something real and imminent, rather than abstract and far away. That said, you will also have much less experience with the codex, and are more likely to put together stuff you won't use.
I guess it's just a matter of what kinds of risks you'd rather take.

DE won't come out for 2-3 years. I promise. It's not a priority army for GW, and it has a recent book.
