Hey there,

Now that the metagame has switched to more troops-oriented build, I wonder if this list could work competitively.

HQ : Khan
Moondrakkan
Command Squad with Bikes, 4 PW, 4 SS, 4 Meltas
570

HQ : Vulkan
190

Troops : SM Bike Squad (5)
2 Flamers, Attack Bike with MM
200

Troops : SM Bike Squad (5)
2 Flamers, Attack Bike with MM
200

Troops : SM Bike Squad (5)
2 Meltas, Attack Bike with MM
210

Troops : SM Bike Squad (5)
2 Meltas, Attack Bike with MM
210

Fast Attacks : Attack Bike Squad (2)
2 MM
100

Fast Attacks : Land Speeder
HF, MM
70

Fast Attacks : Land Speeder
HF, MM
70

TOTAL : 1820

We have a very strong deathstar unit with hit and run, furious charge and feel no pain. With Vulkan, my Meltas (8), Flamers (4), MM (8) and HF (2) count as TL. He stays in reserve so he doesn't give my opponent free points.

What do you think of it ?

Who's Vulkan hanging with?

Might want to find room for a squad of TH termies or something, otherwise he's gonna get zapped real quick... (he could be here as early as turn 2).

Otherwise, not bad, very fast and spammy. Maybe a Stormraven with 5 TH termies and Vulkan in it?

Just a thought.

Have fun.

I'm pretty sure a TH squad is not worth it, because it costs too many points and is not part of the strategy. But if you have any suggestions about how to protect it, I would be happy to see it

I think you need to figure out a place to put Vulkan. I'd drop one of the bike squads and add in a squad of Sternguard Vets in a Rhino with combi-weapons. They can take advantage of Vulkan's abilities too, and it increases his survivability by a lot.

- Deathskulls - 6150

I think the 2 issues are Khan, and Vulkan.

Khan costs 205 points, pretty hefty for a guy with a 3up save and 4up invulnurable as well as an AP3 weapon. His abilites are pretty cool, but in my experience toying with him I've found that even with fnp my command squad takes enough of a beating that it's effectiveness is usually compromised by the time they actually get into combat - particularly against armies with lots of bolters/shartcarbines/etc.

For 10 points cheaper you can get a plain jane captain on a bike with TH/SS and artificer armore for a 2up/3up invuln and a mean (master crafted thanks to vulkan) thunder hammer what is a threat to charactors and vehicles alike. Put him at the front of your command squad and you got a good way of shruggin off most of the small arms fire that will come their way. That's my first suggestion.

Second suggestion is as has been mentioned before, find a place for vulkan. I think the best option here is to drop one of the melta bike squads (already looks like you have enough melta to put the hurt on any vehicles fielded against you, plus you'll have an additional thunder hammer if you take the captain). Replace the squad with some scouts that can sit back on an objective in your end zone plinking sniper shots. Vulkan can attatch to them and attack anything deepstriking on your side and the scouts in the back field will conveniently pick off enemy special weapon troopers occasionally and hold an objective so your other bikes can stay on offence.

You could either do 5 or 6 scouts with an aegis line for some AA protection, or a full squad with cloaks to soak up extra fire. Either way it gives Vulkan something to do besides either run around getting one shotted by lascannons or waiting in reserve donig nothing.

Very good in general but your CS Deathstar likely isn't going to work very well

This unit has 3 flaws:

1)It sticks out like a sore thumb and its going to be a target priority for your opponent.

2)Its 300+ pts, and has no 2+ save. That means that the moment a stream of shots hits this unit its going to lose you points by the bucket load. Your individual models here are about 60-75 points each- and you've got only a 3+/5++ to rely on against large amounts of high shot weapons. I was using Black Knights at a recent tournament and in all 3 games they died in this manner. They were the Deathstar of a list that otherwise was entirely MSU. They failed to do much at all.

3)If you actually get them into close combat, they're just going to do little damage to Termies and they'll be locking them down more than they'll be causing damage.

My advice is just give them Melta's. They'll still draw fire (which is by no means unhelpful now that losing them isn't such a crushing blow),but you'll have 150 saved points. What you want to do with that I'll let you decide.
