thinking of making a squad of my cultists out of some ork boyz. would if be wrong fluff wise?
i know that orks are mercenaries and can be hired for war, chaos cultists are a human war band that have turnt to the dark gods. would it raise a few eye brows if i was to bring a squad of ork boys with a chaos theme and say they have cultists stats? if i model them with there standard pistol and close combat weapons then its not far off being a good proxy is it?

They could be merc orks who were hired by the ruinous powers, then gradually corrupted. It's a big universe.

Give the Cultist the Mark of Nurgle and they are more or less the same, but with slightly higher BS... I think.
You could always just use the Ork Boyz as the basis of some bigger mutant type cultists. GW did produce a kit that was based on Ork Boyz and other human/mutant bits when the Eye of Terror codex was first launched. IIRC.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that its not unheard of for Ork freebooters to take up worship of Khrone but that they end being outcasts too all the other Orks because only Gork and Mork are proper Orky.
Regardless some cool mutant Orks on the table would be really nice to see, even if I'd always be sat thinking they're particularly unrobust for Chaos enhanced living bioweapons.

Chaosify them a bit and say they're actually human mutants? The reason they're not tough even if they're big is that they're warped and twisted creatures.

You could also paint them flesh coloured and call them mutants.
Orks would make an excellent base for a mutant army.

Its from the old Daemon Hunter's codex, which gave some special options to any army playing against Codex: DH. Regardless of which book, you could take Daemons as allies.

Just mix the ork bits with human bits and you've got great mutants.

If I remember right one of the GW guys did a converted army of "Chaos Orks" in conjunction with the Daemonhunter's Codex. Seems to me that Chaos can infect virtually any sentient race, or at least the ones that are made of individuals, because Tyranids are an exception.
I would play against them. They would just be Orks who have fallen to the ruinous powers (likely Nurgle, Khorne, or possibly Undivided) who have been turned away from Gork and Mork, and have stripped weapons from fallen humans. Sounds believable to me.

While those are possible, they're also extremely rare. As in, they're basically unheard of, despite ORks being the most populous sentient race in the galaxy. Mercenaries would probably be better if you wanted to stick to the lore. But you don't have to, since it's your army.
