I bought a Land Speeder a while back and the seller threw in a second one that was already assembled and painted, but didn't have a base. So, bought one from Bitz Barn and it seems either they've changed, or Bitz Barn is selling a different brand. They're topped with a ball, rather than a small peg that slips into the hole on the bottom of the model. Is this how the new ones come? A ball and socket joint would be nice to allow it to come on and off, but this being an older model has nothing like that. All I can think to do is plug the hole in the model with green stuff, then drill and insert a pin, snipping off the ball and pinning it to the flying base.

Seems overly complicated but I can't think of a simpler way to get a good hold. Any other ideas?

There are two styles of flying base from GW, The one with the ball on the end should also have another socket piece that glues to the model while the ball pops into the socket to give a pose-able flight stand.
The one your used to seeing is very much the same without the ball and socket parts. The peg just sticks right into the model with these.

Sounds like you are missing the socket part.

I have extras if you'd like one.

Bummer. It did come with two stands of different heights but both with the ball.

@Eldarain: If you'd like these ones I'd gladly trade. I can make them work though if not.

The ball is quite small right? not much bigger than the actual stand, this is the newer type of fitting, seen on the dark elder and some of the other new flyers but older models like the land speeders still use a pin type arrangement.

note: MAGNETS buy some 6mm magnets from ebay and some 6mm clear plastic rod and make your own stands that are detachable and a lot sturdier than the gw ones.

You know, I do have a bunch of magnets. That may be worth a shot. My other Land Speeder broke off its stand after my first game. Being able to remove it would be a good idea. I'll see if I can make that work!

Is there anyway to simply clip the ball mount off the top of the stand...then if you have to shave down the top with a hobby knife? If not, everytime people by skimmers/flyers they always come with 2 rods of different heights....i would imagine someone at your local game store...or even a local GW might have 1. Best of luck with finding one

Yeah, that would work as well. I had planned on pinning the one that broke anyway, so that's why I came to my original idea. I'm being sent some of the pegged ones though thanks to Eldarain!
