What is the recommended HQ choice at 2000 pts?
Two Flyrants? or is it better to go with Tyrants or Swarmlord at 2K?

Either 2x Flyrant or 1 Flyrant and Swarmy works well.

Flyrants with Devourers are widely considered our best bet. Add Hive Commander or Old Adversary if you can afford it. However, the Swarmlord is the only thing that I'd be willing to trade it out for. Either is viable.

So regular Tyrant is not ideal?

I like the walkrant with stranglethorn cannon, with more of a support role.
Still dangerous in combat, but a good anchor for a shooty, slower list (my typical list).

Do you take two in a 2000 point list? What does your HQ look like at 2000 pts?

There are loads of good options. Walking/flying/swarmy tyrant, mind you they all need finnese to be good with.
Alfa Prime is OK, mandatory in some strategies. And of course another tervigon is never wrong. Happy hunting.

It's all been said.
For me, if I need reserves, I like a Sarmlord / Flyrant. I hate spending 285 on a dakka flyrant with HC. Swarmy nets me more support abilities for 5 points less and is more survivable. Flyrants are too easy to kill to start spending close to 300 pts IMHO. If I'm going for a fast hitting lists that start on the table, 2 flyrants add a ton of pressure. Just make sure your warlord gets catalyst or endurance thrown on him and fly them through terrain for all that is holy. I see too many Nid players not take advantage of the fact you get full cover no matter what flight mode you're in.

Apologies, I'm just going to casually hijack this thread for a moment...
Do people typically take Tervigons as troops or do they just leave them at home??

NEVER leave Tervigons at home! They're far and away our best unit. Taking at least 2 as troops is a very, very safe bet!

Tervigon as HQ or as troops? It depends a bit. They are shurley strong as troops. But they cost to mutch just to leave backfield grabbing an objective. Instead it is better to spawn some gaunts, let them grab the objective and advance. Use it to score objectives in your opponents side of the board. (The tyranids move mutch lice a locust swarm advancing towards the opponent. You rarely wanne grab you "hom objectives". But mostly I buy it because it is a great buy that clothes some of the holes in the troop section.
If you do not need the warrior alfa prime to lead a big unit of something and give synapse I rarely take him.
The all versions of the tyrant need sutch a big point investment you need to build the rest of your list around him.
The tervigon is just a good "cheap" solid HQ. Think of him as scoring, or at least her spawns do. That way you can get away with just grabing 1 tervigon HQ, 1 tervigon troop and one unit of podded gaunts and use your points elsewhere. It depends.

So the consensus is 2 Flyrants are not as effective as Swarmy + Flyrant?

Full cover save? You talking about the catalyst power?

1) No that's not the consensus, it's more about how you're building your army. Like I said, I like a Swarmy / Flyrant build if I'm bringing a lot of reserves (Doom + Ymgarls, etc), otherwise if I'm using a fast moving, high pressure list that starts on the board, 2 Flyrants are awesome; it gives your opponent a lot of target priority problems.
2) What I mean is, some Nid players swoop their Flyrants and don't drop them in area terrain. I only presume they don't realize you can still get cover saves when you're swooping. A Flyrant is remarkably easy to kill, you need to give him all the help he can get.

While there are some clearly better choices then others you reach a roof where a good choice is dependent on play style and personal opinion and army lists.

I will usually run the Tyrant with Stranglethorn cannon, and lash whip\bonesword combo, with toxin and possibly old adversary. Second HQ is often a cheap Prime in with some warriors. Super easy!

Jink save while swooping?

If you use jink while swooping then you're forced to snap-fire in your next turn. Much better to just fly the tyrant into area terrain and get a cover save normally.

I either run the standard duel Flyrants with 2 x Devourers each ORRRR if I'm feeling adventurous One Armoured shell tyrant with 2 x Devourers Old adversary and 2 x Tyrant Guard, with Swarmlord and 2 x Tyrant Guard.

Wow that second setup is *spendy*. I ran a 2x armored shell, TL Dev, Old Adversary list with dakkfexes, devilgants, tervs, and hiveguard. I split everything up in 2 big shooting blocks. It was nuts, but too slow and short range to run as a primary list. I suppose if I switch the Hive Guard for Biovores so the opponent can't just hang out in the back... hmm... may need to try that list again.
