Should I get the Battleforce? The Classic HQ and 2 Troops? Maybe some Heavy Armor in there?
I want a Guard army as both a standalone and an ally to my Dark Angels. What should I do?

Well, Battleforce is nice, it gives you a solid base. I like sentinals. Armored is pretty good.
You need a command platoon for orders. you can combine the two squads to make a single blob.

I really want some armor in my list. Gonna paint em up like Steel Legion.

I have my own "rules" when I start an army which is 1 HQ, 2 Troops and something for anti-armor purposes (usually heavy support). With IG I went with a company command squad, a minimum sized platoon and a veteran squad with meltas. Just to point out they are fluffy catachans and that is why I avoid other vehicles than sentinels. Battleforce is a good start. Get one more infantry squad box, another command squad box and if you want to go with the sentinels one or two more of those. That is a nice foundation to expand on in my opinnion.

I shall rule the world someday utilizing my cuteness. And I already have one minion to help me do it!

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

Use Leman Russes, they're both highly effective, and a favourite tank for the Steel Legion.

Don't bother with the battleforce. Sentinels are practically useless.
The best option you have in my opinion is to start out small and grab an infantry box, along with a heavy weapon box.
Considering the infantry box comes with garbage weapons this thread will give you some to make that are actually useful.
The thing with guard is that armour and waves of infantry aren't mutually exclusive. you can have infantry with Russ support, or you can go mech with artillery (and Russes if you want).

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
