Hey guys,
I am going to start a new space marine chapter and have decided on a obscure chapter called the Viper Legion,
Unfortunately there is nothing about this chapter anywhere that I may find helpful.
I have a number of different chapter colour schemes in my mind that are inspired by real life vipers.

My idea is that standard marines will be like usual nothing special on them
elites and important characters will have scales emerging and being blended into their armour
and on vehicles something to do with those tomb king snake riders...

idk its just an idea...

If you guys had to choose a colour scheme what would it be like.
This is a work in progress!

Thanks

I like the idea of basing the cholor scheme on real snakes. They'd stand out next to all those bright colored paint-schemes with their more earth colored paint scheme. But painting scales on them is probably tricky.

Have you considered using scale cloaks from the dark elves corsairs? They look really cool on HQ units, sergants and/or veterans.

Those scales doblook quite nice - shame gw has a policy on bitz now.

One thing for certain that i have decided is for yellow eyes
However should i go for a drab grive olive colour scheme or an earthy brown like the snake above...?

You are having the same problems I am having, trying to pick a cool scheme that no one else has done. I'm thinking of using a Cobra figure to make my paint scheme. I'm going to do the yellow eyes as well, I used a army painter on Bolter and Chainsword, and the yellow looks cool. Plus its different then what everyone else is doing.

As for your color question, if you like the desert color scheme, if you go with the viper paint scheme, I would do the earthy brown like the diamond back rattler.

One of the new Necron special characters has a cloak that is formed of oblong scales that would be great for a special character for your army. You might also want to look at using Lizardman shields (from Warhammer Fantasy) for Storm Shields, since they are also scaled. There are a few tutorials out there for the Harlequin checked motley that work equally well for scales. (I used one to freehand the scales on my Vulkan.)

Just a couple ideas, hope that helps.
