Just wanted to know, my friend is selling his old tape measure, its not the skull, but the one with the games workshop logo in yellow on it. It's black. Just want to know what the quality of it is?
Otherwise i might just get the Gale Force 9 tape measure, what's your opinion on that tape measure btw?

Or just go to a hardware store and get one for $2. As long as it's a tape measure with inch markings on it, it works.

That sait, the black tape measure was pretty poor quality, as is the skull.
The only really high-quality tape measure GW's made was the red one with the aquila on one side in relief.

the skull has worked way better for me than the red tape measure. Slight issue with the tape not working when you set it down on the table with the tape out(like advertised) but for regular measuring it works fine. The catch to keep the tape out didn't break like the red one did.
My red tape's stop ceased to work within a couple months, which is really annoying.

My red tape measure was awesome until I kept snapping it shut, now the chisel hook is held on by one rivet. My skull was an impulse buy. It works just as well, the spring is unbelievably strong, almost too strong for the lock clutch.
That all being said, if you want to buy the black one for collection, go ahead. But remember, for what you'll probably spend on an official GW tape measure, you could buy 4 from the hardware store that are juwt as good if not better. And no, GW staff will not eject you for using them.

I've been using the same Stanley tape measure for wargaming since 1996.
My friends who use GW tape measures replace theirs every few months.

I agree with Loki-
Just get a small, cheap one that fits in your backpack.

I still have my old, black, gw tape measure. It was good because it had standard and metric measurements on it, so you could use it for BFG, back when that game still mattered.

I think every GW tape measure has had metric incriments as well.
And yes, BFG is awsome

I think the current tape is cool for the novelty factor, but "real-life" measuring tapes work a hundred times better for their value.
And like above, us cool oldies use whippy sticks, with the optional "nearly invisible numbers made more visible with careful application of a sharpie". "Really" cool guys even have them in blue with centimeters from Battlefleet Gothic.
