Here is my first attempt at painting. I wanted to try something different since everyone expects orks to be green. Any tips are greatly appriciated.

For your first attempt those look pretty nice and clean. They certainly look a lot nicer than my first attempts did

They work surprisingly well in blue.

I've always liked the idea of blue orks, and yours have turned out nicely.

For you first attempt at painting there are a lot of positives, your brush control looks good, I would say that the colours look a little flat though, try a badab black wash over model to add some depth.

Gotta agree with the other comments for your first go dam fine effort...
My first attempt was worthy only of the bin and that's where it went...!
seriously though man only advice i would give you is add some washes... maybe dark blue wash over the skin and a sepia or devlan mud wash over the bone and teeth parts.

Pretty darn well done for a first attempt at painting mine was a simple mess of blue splodged onto a tactical marine with gold hazardly painted on the edges.

Good start dude! My thoughts for you to work on:

Yellow - Use a foundation/base paint for better coverage. Something like Tausept Ochre or the new Averland Sunset.

Wrist straps etc - just stick with a simple dark brown or black, will look tidier

Metal - Wash over with a mix of brown and black washes - I use 50/50 nuln oil and agrax earthshade over metal and it looks fine without any further stages.

Keep posting up pics

You should be proud of your first attempt at painting! Good eye for color and good brush control. Keep painting, and you'll only get better.

I love Orks anyway but thoes are some tasty Orks!

Always great seeing some other colours other than green, it adds a bit of depth to the race as a whole!

Really great job though and it's not badly done either, you can't really do Orks badly though

Wanted to do some different skinned Orks for a while but I can't get down to the shop

It all looks good to me, the only thing I would have done differently is that the teeth and bones are way to bright for my liking and a little flat, you might find some agrax earthshade wash will be beneficial.

Loving the blue orks! Great deviation from standard looks without getting too wacky. I agree that a brownish wash across your teeth (and especially across that skull ponytail holder) would really make the bone elements pop! Nevertheless, this is great work, especially for a first attempt. Keep it up!

Thanks for all the positive comments! I haven't made as much progress on my army as I would have liked. New job has taken up a lot of my time. But I'm working on a Dakka Jet right now and will post pics when I finish it.

I think the blue gives them a savage, tribal sort of look (like the various peoples who painted themselves blue before battle). Maybe your future models could emphasize this visual connection? If not, they work just fine as is. Great job!

Those are some lucky boyz, wot with the blue.

I agree about the washes, but I think I'd go for black, personally.

Also, great background scenery! What is that?

Going to hazard a guess on the background. Seen something similar...fish tank display or similar....nice work on the Orks though. Two thumbs up
