I keep wanting to use them (terminator Interrogator Chaplain), I love the model, I love the fluff, and I do think the new rule (Zealot) is a nice improvements on Litanies of Hate. However, for just 5 extra points I can field a Terminator Librarian, level 2, conversion field and power axe; which allows me to keep re-rolling my hits throughout a prolonged assault (prescience), punch through 2+ saves (axe), and insta-kill non-EW models (force-weapon)...

Is the Libby just the way to go? Or does the Chaplain have a niche somewhere?

Any feedback appreciated; I would like to hear any original ways to field the Chappy.

I am in the same boat here and im sorry to say it but I think the librarian is just too good to pass up! Only advantage for having the chaplain is an extra wound!

Edit: The only really effective use of a chaplain ive found is with a squad of thunderhammer termies or deathwing knights, as he gives them rerolls to hit first turn of combat, he also gives them prefered enemy everything so youll be rerolling those 1s with 2s to wound on most things.

How does he give PE "Everything"??? Inner Cicle just gives PE CSM.

Doesn't give PE, I'm 99% he gives Hatred to the squad from Zealot. And if you want PE everything take the portarack and torture someone!

I'm not running a Chaplain in my current list, but there's more fluff to that than tactics. I can see them being a big boost to RAS squads, having Hatred on the charge can help take a chunk out of the enemy, but not so big a chunk that you wipe the squad and become a bullet magnet

And to give my opinion I use a chaplain for fun games because fluff-wise their story is just cool. But if im going to a tourney or playing competitively then i take the Libby, he just gives you so many more options at only a modest point increase.

It's a shame, but they just don't have any real use outside of friendly and/or "fluffy" gameplay. The Librarian's cost and force multiplying abilities make him the better choice in every scenario.

Not to mention the Psychic hood and the 5+ Deny the Witch save

Sorry re read the chaplain rules and youre right he doesn't have preferred enemy. Dont know where i got that idea from?

You could have a libby leading a DWK squad or something in a land raider, but I prefer the interrigator chaplain in terminator armor.

Why? well, he gives hatred to his squad automatically, and he doesn't have to "cast" it every turn. so there is no chance of him blowing up his own head or failing to give it.

he has 3W and a natural 4+ save all the time, and he is just shy of a Captain's stat line.

Put him in the DWK squad that buffs him to T5, keep his Crozius and give him a mace, and he works really well with the knights.

Didn't think of dropping a storm bolter and going dual maces for the xtra attack, good call. Could go with the Monster Slayer too, for AP3 and the potential to insta-kill.

yea, but then your going towards Special character level of points. the guy I described is about 170pts, so he is a little up there.

The Chaplain has strength 6 due to his rosarius (I think) so that could be good if you want to get him into combat that could be a plus

nope, the rosarius just gives him 4++

Mace of redemption, on the other hand... have fun with +3 strength AP3 with extra attacks for 2 CCW.

The Crozius is a power maul, that's what you're thinking of. If we're talking a PA or Bike Chappy I'd replace the crozius with the Mace to retain the bolt pistol. In termie armor it'd be based on who he's running with, DWK swap the SB for the Mace, DW keep the SB

Or any Int-Chap, they have Inner Circle, which is Fearless + PE CSM

Libbys have Inner Circle as well.

I think it boils down to that the Interrogator chaplain is a little better in assault. He has 3W, WS5, and he has a 4++invuln.

I think he is better in a Land Raider that drives up the middle while the libby is a little better at deepstriking with his support.

Libby is WS5 as well, in term armor has a 5++. But yea the extra wound helps a little, but having to take a crosious, sucks.

you dont have to take a crosious, swap it out for something sweet like the mace of redemption, or even take both of the above for +1A.

The libby offers so much more with his powers to buff his unit and units around him. So yes he has the possiblity that he blows his head off, but he can give his army sooooo much more.

I think the libby is good for deepstiking and as a support HQ, while the Chaplain is better at leading a DW squad in a land raider to shove down you opponent's arse.

The Chap/Int-Chap are also a good choice to boost RAS and RW Knight squads, the Knights especially. Rerolling hits the first turn of combat is great for the bikes in most cases, more hitting power, but you're still not dishing out enough damage to leave yourself open to shooting in your opponents turn. Alternately it's a great way to use the bikes as a trap unit, since Hatred is now first turn of combat, not on the charge.
