Simple question: does the Nightshroud's ability regarding strength increases from weapons apply to the Ork Choppas special rule? The wording of the special rule mentions "weapons" multiple times.

Hmmm.

The Nightshroud adds + 1 to the bearer's armour save.
Furthermore, enemy models in base contact with the wearer
lose all Strength bonuses conferred from normal and magical
weapons, and have the Always Strikes Last special rule.

Models with the Choppaz speical rule gain +1 Strength in the first round of each combat.

I'd say that the Nightshroud does not affect units with the Choppaz USR because it's the USR granting the bonus, not the weapon itself. In the army list, Orkz are listed as having Hand Weapons, not Choppaz, as Choppaz is listed as a USR. Since the S bonus is prodived by a USR and not a weapon, I'd say they still get the +1S in the first round of combat.

"Choppaz" is not a strength bonus conferred by a weapon. NIghtshroud has no interaction.

Yes so, if say boar boys with spears where to charge you they'd get the choppa bonus but not the spear bonus.

I read it the same, but that's disappointing.

Still a pretty good bonus, and the ASL still counts. I suppose it would be annoying if you would have had an armour save without choppaz.

What ASL we're talking spears here.

The ASL conferred by nightshroud.

More disappointing just because of the wording. Seems like Choppas are definitely weapons, per the fluffy wording.

Every orc weapon is a choppa, the S bonus comes from the enthusiasm the orc himself puts into it, he tends to run out of steam after a while though.
PS since i don't know the nightshroud's rules i went by what was said in the thread, so i didn't know it also has an ASL effect.

Ah, gotcha.

The Nightshroud is magic armor that adds +1 to the wearer's armor save, and all enemy models in base contact with the wearer lose strength bonuses conferred by normal and magical weapons and gain ASL.

Then yea special rules would still work then, like choppas and oddly enough a boar's tusker charge seeing as it's the same codex.

Lose ASF and gain ASL.
So you don't even revert to swinging on your init, you go last.

I'm not a fan of it, because I tend to get smacked around by the 2nd and 3rd rank who are unaffected by it.

Oh right right, I forgot about that.

Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of it (especially at 40 points) but I feel like it's one of those items that has a unique potential, and so I'm trying to find out what that is (or if that is).

How does it remove ASF then add ASL.

it simply says models gain ASL

It would depend on the source of ASF. If the ASF was on the weapon, you then lose ASF.

Oh, by the way.

its Orc not Ork (40k). ITs Choppas not Choppaz (40k). Its not a USR (40k), its a Army Special Rule. Plus USR (Univeral Special Rules) is 40k's BRB Special Rule.

I think the most effective way to use items that effect b2b is on ridden monsters. In this edition, however, ridden monsters are pretty awful, so it doesn't really solve the problem.

Imo, most B2B items are supposed to be used in challenges.
