I missed out on the Kickstarter, and I have been regretting it ever since. Now, with the rumors of a Limited Edition Bloodbowl release, I'm this close to hitting the Buy button. That said, there is essentially no gaming community where I am, so it would just be sitting in the pile of games to teach my son when he is old enough (along with Sedition Wars, for example). So, which way should I go?

Well the new version of Dreadball (Kick Off edition) is only £30 RRP and contains 2 teams, the board, and all the basic rules, so you could get that as a taster without breaking the bank.

There's an expansion (Extra Time) that you can buy afterwards that gives you all the main rules that Kick Off misses (if it helps, think of it like the original Blood Bowl rules and the Death Zone expansion).

“Good people are quick to help others in need, without hesitation or requiring proof the need is genuine. The wicked will believe they are fighting for good, but when others are in need they’ll be reluctant to help, withholding compassion until they see proof of that need. And yet Evil is quick to condemn, vilify and attack. For Evil, proof isn’t needed to bring harm, only hatred and a belief in the cause.”

I'd suggest getting the full box game - It's better value at the end of the day.

However, I'd also suggest that if you 'pretend' to play it Kick-off Edition style. - Without cards, the ref or fouling, it does become a perfectly fun "board game" that you can get geekily inclined people to play who aren't actually wargamers.

Of course... Once you do that and get your hooks into then, you then use that as a means to make up your own gaming community!

You can actually get norms to play this game. Playin with an artist, a mechanic, several military guys....it people like competitive games, most see past the Orcs and dwarves and wanna throw down. The idea of expanding a team and developing players is highly appealing to even the jock types. They mostly just stick to the human and dwarf teams.

I wasn't too sure about the game before (at least, concerning whether or not it could take off) but I have to say the second wave of releases has really sold it to me.

The miniatures, style, the game itself, everything looks more professional.

Thanks, everyone. I actually bit the bullet and ordered the basic boxed set about a week ago. If nothing else, it should be another fun game to play with my son when he is old enough.

One more thing Japan.......you can get gals to play this game if they play board games as well. Just make sure you read up on the rules, and at least know where to flip.

Picked up the main game today.
Just finished gluing all the models together.
WIll say they're the quickest/easiest assembly I've had for any Mantic 'restic' models.

Make sure you check back in once you've gotten your feet wet. I'm also contemplating picking up the game, and I've got a few things selling on eBay that'll probably go towards picking up the starter set.

Well, I opened the box and all the components look great. The board is sturdier than I imagined, and the tab-and-slot mechanism for the human team's arms looks like it will work much better than the flat surfaces on the Enforcers arms. Ii I ever get to play, I'll post my thoughts.
