In keeping with my Red Hunters theme, here is my conversion for a Vulkan who fits with my army. I don't think I'll be adding a cloak to him as it's not something that is really mandatory and with how SM models are I'd have to sculpt one myself which I'm not keen on doing.

Looks good so far. But to be honest without additional details like a cloak or other stuff like that he looks more like a "normal" grey knight to me. So you might still consider creating a cloak or use one from the dark elves corsairs.
Another way would be to create a different color scheme for him so that he can be easily picked out next to normal grey knights.

I have some half finished marines with those dark elf cloaks. I will make some photos soon and post them here.

I hadn't considered a corsair cloak(which I have loads of laying around).

Also, none of my models are "GK". They are just using the parts from them, but the paint scheme is entirely different(red with gold trim).

I think that - independant of what army you play - that hero units should be recognizeable. Either by by special color choise, conversion or setting him up on a higher base. This helps to recognize them on the board especially if they join a unit of similar looking models.

And here is the promised picture. This started with a scratchbuild vulkan (the headless one with the scratchbuild powerfist) but as i found the vulkan conversion to bland compared to my newer hq conversions i choose to make a whole veteran unit out of them. But as i discontinued my army they will be never finished. (or rolled into my new chaos army)
