Just saw this pop up on another forum, https://twitter.com/jameshrussell

He tweets abut a new total war game which will be announced at GDC and is something they have never done before. Now is it just me or does it seem like its going to be warhammer?

I dunno about that. I mean, Creative Assembly receiving the Warhammer Fantasy license has been announced weeks ago.

However, I don't think there's been any real details or official announcement about the nature of the Warhammer Fantasy game they're going to release.

Didnt they just announce that they bought the license, I dont think they announced a game, just that they are now partnered with GW.

I really hope its a warhammer total war and my heart will shatter if it turns out to be some mobile game.

edit: No idea when (what time) they are gonna announce this game.

The only reason to give Creative Assembly the license is to create Warhammer Total War. For any other kind of RTS, GW could have just reliably fallen back to Relic.

Well sorry folks, the new game unlike anything they have done before is a f2p MOBA style game.

A day will come, when Warhammer is displayed in rightful glory, but it is not this day, THIS DAY WE CRY!

what the feth?

A MOBA game? F2P? Is Creative Assembly committed to failure? Why would SEGA even allow them to make something that stupid?

Ughhh......one of the best game developers on earth is making a F2P moba. Videogaming is dead, ding dong.

Have we got a reference for this?

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

It's in the OP. It links to a CA dev saying that they're making a online team-based multiplayer game. https://twitter.com/jameshrussell

It doesn't sound like a MOBA at all. It just sounds like a Total War game with big teams, smaller individual player detachments (3 units was what that article talked about) and commensurately more fiddly micromanagement.

Well, at least its not connected to the Warhammer franchise.

Seriously though, why are they wasting their time with this F2P garbage?

Thats the game that Slitherine is making, CA will be making a warhammer game (which is being developed concurrently with Rome 2). Total war games won't be able to do 40K battlefields justice without completely changing the game which is presumably why CA only aqcuired the fantasy license.

Currently we have quite a few GW licensed games in development; Space Hulk, Warhammer Quest, a large scale strategic 40k game (probably), a TW style fantasy game (probably) and DoW 3 was being worked on at Relic before THQ imploded but work may well be continuing now. There may well be more that are currently under the radar.

This is very old news though and this is at least the 6th thread about this.

You do know f2p MOBA game (LoL) was *the* most played game in 2012? It had double the game time of number two - WoW.

Having this kind of data; how is making f2p MOBA game "that stupid"?

Some people have an irrational hatred of F2P games, even though they are obviously financially succesful and they can be good games, if they are set up right.

I have no idea why this is to be honest, presumably it is something to do with origins of F2P with facebook style games and sheer snobbery.

Because there is a gak ton of $$$ in it. Contrary to the name, an effective microtansaction system like those seen in LoL, STO, and GW2, will make a company more money than they could ever dream of from a monthly subscription plan.

It's because a lot of them are honest to goodness terrible, and pay to win. Shatter Galaxy still really stands out in my mind as a F2P game that had no point in being played unless you were paying them, making it not really F2P.

They aren't all like that though, in fact the high profile ones tend to have fiar pricing structures and are generally decent games.

I'm not against F2P as a principal but I've yet to see it work in practice. Most F2P games are MMORPGs and their gameplay feels stretched as a result of them being infinitely playable.

Well, I'd go with Team Fortress, Dota 2, Planetside 2 and the League of Legends mentioned above. Each depending on your taste / graphical receptivity. (actually I would not recommend the last one because community is god awful if you are not good at it).

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

My only concerns is they may make some major changes to the Total War game style and how magic will get implimented. Magic being the bigger of the 2. Because lets face it, its not going to be Fantasy without awsome magic.

For once, I hope they are lazy and stick with their tried and true Total War game style. Turn based world map combined with real time battles, naval battles optional but would be awsome.

Some possible ways they could impliment magic.

1) They could simply be static abilities of "wizard" type units that recharge over time like abilities have been in other total war games.

2) they could have Wizards be sort of like generals in that they are characters you can customize, like in Shogun 2 where you could select abilities from an ability tree when a general leveled up.

So you could pick spells from a series of options for that guy to have for the rest of the game. Spells would be based off of a magic ability stat and a random roll to see if it was successful or not. Wizards could attempt to dispel enemy spells that were in effect and some units would have resistance or immunity to spells as appropriate.

I'd like the second option but it could get complicated fast.

Going off what's been said, it's not "Warhammer: Total War", it's more like "DOW2: F2P Fantasy Boogaloo".
