Short story:
As the subject line says.

Long story:
I painted some zombies for Box O' Zombies. Turns out they let me
keep half the zombies commissioned. I won't post them again, but
they're somewhere in the gallery.

I gave them to my niece whose husband is a big zombie fan. She,
however, is into vampires instead. So what single vampire model
would you suggest as a single stand-alone display piece for painting?

I like the Reaper one, Judas:

Or if it's a female vampire, the Nocturna Models one is really beautiful: http://nocturnamodels.com/product.php?id_product=16.

Only catch is, she's a 54mm.

54mm might be fine. The Box O Zombies are 54mm iirc

You're all good, then. I have this morbid fear of tackling anything bigger than 40mm, since mistakes are magnified at larger scales.

Which is totally fine.

The only one I can ever remember is the boss looking bat vampire. Those are sweet.

That one is nice. Seems inspired by the GW one posted above!

I do own it and I would second that opinion. She is quite lovely and comes with several options for arms and heads which is quite nice.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.
