How does the Portal of Exile on the Necron Monolith really work? Do you roll for each model sepretly as per the Necron codex OR as a group per 6ed rule book. Whats the official ruling on this.

Codex trumps Rulebook so unless there is a FAQ you would role per model.

I don't know he mentioned per group in 6th ed rulebook.

He's probably thinking of a unit taking a characteristic test. But that's for units taking tests, not models. I can't think of a single thing in the main rulebook that would cause an individual model to take a characteristic test. I can't think of anything in the main rulebook that causes an individual model to take a non-leadership characteristic test, so the main rulebook only really covers units taking tests.

As the portal of exile causes models to take characteristic tests, he probably improperly assumed that the main rulebook covering units taking tests applied. But the Portal isn't a unit taking a test, it's multiple models taking individual tests, so the one per unit doesn't apply.
