I consider myself to be more of a casual gamer with TT quality models, as oppissed to a painter who plays the occassional game. As such, all of my purchases go towards one of my, now nunbered 4 (SM, GK, Nids, CSM), armies. However, with the removal of open gamibg in the only place I have to play, a GW, it looks bad for me. There is a tiny gamer cafe across town, and a few clubs in the next town over but these are far too much hassle and expensive for a 16yr old living in the UK (unlike you yanks we can't start driving lessons untill 17).

So right now, I haven't played a game since, November 2012, which was a gakky little flyer battle event. My last true game was a short 45min 2v2 with 3 strangers because there was only 1 table allowed for gaming tjat day, but my last porper game was September I thibk.

Throughout the last 11 months, I have been working on improving my painting, obviously only models from the above armies, but I really have a hankering to paint other models, namely some SWs, particularly PA guys, TWC and a Wolf Lord in TDA and one on a Wolf.
Also I really want to try some Necron stuff, and Khorne Daenons, and Orks, and BA, particularly DC and SG, Deathwing, Ravenwing, Tau Riptide, and I still wanto paint stuff from my armies.

These other armies, I don't want to start more armies, but I really want a go at painting them. With a limited budget (birthday money) and no current income, I can't afford to add much to my current armies, never mind add more armies. I only just started CSM with DV.

So my question is, whether or not you guys reading this think its worth me purchasing these as shelf displys, taking into account limited shelf space, tabletop quality jobs, low budget and not being used for gaming purposes. Also, with a bit of luck I'll be in either Glasgow Scotland or London to study at university in 2 years, orrather preparing my final exams before I leave for one of those 2.

If you aren't saving up your money for anything, and you don't plan on playing anytime soon, then sure, buy some extra minis just to paint if thats what you want.

I haven't really got much advice on the gaming front, I've been very fortunate that I can play at friends houses (quick protective bit 'o felt over a dining table and it's manageable for medium-sized games) or at local clubs (town halls type of thing - obviously not as good for you considering transport and school-nights). Keep looking, you never know.

As far as the painting thing, definitely try other models (single models / small squads since you're on a budget), they don't even have to be GW. I've got several figs from various companies (even if I have no idea about the games they come from) just because I likes the look of them. And painting them is both a good 'break' from my armies and a good excuse to try new techniques without worrying about messing up the overall... thing (can't think of the word I mean)... of your exisiting models.

And good luck at Uni! (Both gaming and studying!)

TO WAAAAAGH

Jokes aside, it's always good to have different models to try different styles on and just to have as a painting repertoire

Buying 40k just to paint

Nuts to that. If your buying just to paint, buy minis from a different company. You like Dwarves? Mantic sells one hundred of the bastards for fifty pounds. Don't like Dwarves? Theres still hundreds of better options than GW

Can't believe they're actually going through with the 'no games in stores' policy.
