So, I've started a new SM-army. The first one I will build from the foundation myself. I will focus this thread on certain projects in the army and the buildup as a whole! There is certain kits in the SM range that I find highly interesting. Either because I didn't build them when I started with my BA some 13 years ago, or because they're new kits! An example is the Land Speeder Storm that is the first somewhat finished vehicle in the force!

I will aim to build the army in 250p blocks, starting with 750p. The army per say is named "Legio Vindictam" - The legion of revenge. Sort of.
They're to be a successor-chapter to the Iron Hands, mostly because I like the extra kit for their tactical squads.

The chapter is supposed to be heavily mechanized and armored, so it will be tanks and razorbacks en massé.

Thx for the comments guys! I'm sorry, but no pics this time, but nonetheless a quick update.

One thing that have been in the back of my mind since I started this project is that I want every single mini to be unique. And one of the biggest "concerns" has been the commander.

But as I was sorting my bitz I found a old tech-priest from the old ba honour guard. He will be the base for my new commander! Pics of him will be delivered tomorrow.

With him I will post an updated pic on the ordinary paint-scheme, with the trim bettered. And, of course, some pics on the donkeys progress!

So, picture time! YAY! The donkey is back! I've tried to add some rust on certain surfaces, and when looking at the pics I realize that if it looks good IRL, it doesn't on the pics... I will although fix this during the day!

So I've been able to do a little work, mostly some basic rebuilding and the creation of a veteran!

So, time for an update! Yeahyeah, I KNOW it's been a while, but one kid at home and 31 at work take their toll... The ones at work is kicked away now atleast!

So. Today I got a package. And how does Danesk react when he FINALLY gets his long awaited package? Well, something like this:

Finally I got some pics! Yey!

The razorback is starting to shape up nicely, despite me being a novice in the plasticcard-world. She's going to have reinforced armour and some other nice things. Mostly swapped bits and some rebuilding.

So, once again I ask for all C&C you might have. I really want to improve in the buisness of building with white plastic...

And an idea that struck me regarding the positioning of the turret:


The idea is that I want some realism, and two major reasons for this placement is 1. the gun is closer to th front, ergo longer range ergo the need for exposing sides in MOUT is decreasing and 2. the powerpack and all the tech is otherwise to be right at the door, and thus in the way when the guys are to leave the vehicle...

I forgot to take pics of the inside, but it is painted and done! So those pics will be of a later date...

This time there will be a lot of pics on the painted RB, and even though she still has some work to her she's getting there! I figure 1-2 hours left and then shes ready for the field!

The red lenses is looking really red, more than they actually are! The base is mercrite red, and I'm going to get a red wash do darken things up a bit...
And glaze is another thing that I will get to the lenses!

And finally, me and a buddy of mine diskussed the design-flaw in the raxorback. Both being in the tank corps we know that the turret NEED to take some place. So I decided to build the inside of the RB so that it COULD support a turret:



It doesn't affect the movement of the turret at all.

This last few days I've been painting like a nutter! I've nearly finished the razorback (there is one thing that I don't know how to paint...) and the HG is a long way towards completion! Today it's only pics on the RB although, I didn't take any new pics because the big computer has broken down...

Oh well, update time! This time on my infantry. The HG has had som major work done, and I've starting to work on two deathwath-marines!
AND I've resurrected six marines from my previous force!

And when painting troops I've stoolen a tip from a buddy of mine, the "one-meter-rule". Basically meaning that if it looks alright from one meter, it's good to go! I've previosly looked at them from one thenth of a meter, and seen aaaaaaaaaaaaaall the imperfections... I'm hoping that my stolen rule will speed up my painting!

And to the big picture, the revival-station. The tactical marines above is all old marines, stripped of paint, partly disassembled and then they got new pieces where needed and formed my very first squad.


Lastly, the box of "unsavebles", the minis that I suspect is to beaten up to revive. They will live on as spare parts:

Ok, first let me tell ya you have done an awesome job so far I like the black and white paint scheme a lot and some of your custom / kitbashed models like the "Donkey" are awesome

The Razorback looks like it gave a lot of work but the final result are worth it.

But these recent pics, they seem a bit too dark. I almost can't see details because of how dark it is. Any chance for a new set of pics?

I see that now... Well then, I apologise for the dark pics and will get better today, and this time ill check the light and make it work!

The razorback was actually one of the most fun projects so far! And since being the first time I used plasticcards I'm satisfied with the result!

And since it's a recovery project I will have some more kitbashed minis for laters!

Yesterday and today has been building days! I've tried some new things, and ressurected a few more old marines! And I will deliver some better pics of some of yesterdays units!

I've come to realize that I greatly enjoy seeing my old marines get a new life! And I dare to take risks with my saw, knife, plasticards and what-not to make it look good!

Enough chit-chat, here's the update:

The sergeant for the second squad. Some GK bits here, and he's supposed to come directly from the Iron hands to mentor the new chapter and to provide a good basis for training and such.


My lad with a special boltgun! I wanted it to really show that these lads stands close to the mechanicum, and there's few better ways than giving them some special-pattern bolters!




And this next guy is quite the project! I wanted him to be some kind of specialist in boarding ships an breaking into small places, so I gave him a shield and a drummagazine

So, I have a new project, fully in line for my SM force.

A vindicator! But not just A vindicator, but this:



As you can see, it's the metal-parts of an old model and the chassie from a newer rhino. The old vindicator i got second-hand 12 years ago and it was basically ready for the garbage to begin with. But I didn't throw it away, and I'm grateful for that now.
The rhino I got free from a friend when he quit the hobby. He was about to make a piece of terrain of it, and so the looks of it...

I have A LOT to do if I want to have a decent model! And what I will do is:

- Remove the two front exhaust-pipes
- Remove excess paint
- Polish up surfaces that was damage during the build so long ago, or by glue and other stuff
- Work up a new outside with plasticards
- Get the metal-parts in place

Looking at these points, it seems quite easy. Looking at the rhino make it look hard.
My guess is that I will have to improve both my GS and plasticard skills during this build, because if I don't it's doomed.

The progress this far is 1 exhaust-pipe removed.

So... Wish me good luck. Because I'll need it!

So, I've been quite busy, as you may notice since I already have an update!

The work done so far is:
- Both front exhaust is removed
- Plasticards mounted on the top and sides
- Demolisher cannon is in place
- Sculpting has begun
- Some other minors have been mounted on the chassie

I still have A LOT of sculpting and work with plasticards to do.
The large thing in the rear is to be were the searchligt, radar and some other things will be mounted.

The large things I've identified that has to be done:
- Sculpt and make it look good
- Clean up the plasticard edges
- Create a dozerblade. At the moment my idea is to either use a dozerblade from the IG range or scratch-build one. But that is way into the future! As of now the sculpting will cease for a while. I'm out of GS. And I'm not gonna use it anymore. The yellow part is full of hard lumps that makes the stuff not as efficient as it should be.
- Create smoke launchers. This will be fairly easy, as I earlier looked among the bits from ordinary models and found a whole lot of single smokelaunchers. They will be fixed in equal amount on both side of the barrel, in the same way as it is on the Panzerhaubitz 2000.

So, that was todays update! Any C&C on this project is welcome, as it is my largest and most complicated project to date!

Now I will have to wait for new putty before I can resume the sculpting. But the progress so far is pleasing to my own eye.

So, a quick little update without pics.

A friend of mine (the one that lured me into 40k) left this game about 7 years ago, and then he sold al his smurfs.

Or so he thought he did. He found some vehicles earlier today, and reasoned that he needed the space, so he gave them to me. Yey!

The vehicles I got was a land raider, one predator, one dreadnought, one razorback and two rhinos. Great for me! Now I have to strip them of paint and make them fit into my force. And as I don't have any gs or putty they will replace the vindicator project for a little while. My plan is to keep it simple and quick.

I like your reasoning for moving the Razorback weapons forward, but on a similar point- how do the marines use the side doors on the Landraider without taking a twin-linked Lascannon shot to the side of the head?!

Ryan: I figure that it, after all, is an assault vehicle, and as such they'll use the front doors. But even so, I guess that the heavy bolters is the weapons used for support during disembarking, given the height of their mount!

Another day, another update! This time I bring you pics, and of the newest addition to my force: The dreadnought Cato! (No, he's NOT named after the ultramarines captain...)

He is one of the newly arrivals from my friend, and he was basically a tester for how much paint that needed to be stripped away. And some new painting-techniques.
Before the repainting he was a noble smurf, blue and all.
Not anymore. Now he's black!

He was painted fairly quick, I think he took about 2-3 hours, including priming and the base. That will be my goal for all new vehicles, time-speaking that is. I tried two things for the very first time on him: blue lenses and some minor OSL/verdigris colouring around the "eye". This became very dark though, so it's quite hard to see in the pics.

Well, here you have him:






I'm very pleased with the result, and when putting hem next to the razorback they look like a chapter that is coming togheter!

The one thing I'm uncertain of is if I should ad some more bone-colour anywhere, mayhaps to brake it up some more...
Any thoughts about that?

So, that will the last update for a whole week as we're going to my parents-in-law. They live about 600 kilometres away from here, so it's not an alternative to bring colours and minis...
When I get back I'll have some putty waiting for me, so the vindicator WILL be finished before the end of my vacation.
And I will finish one of the rhinos as well to try how fast I can repaint one of those.

And for critique, there's nothing called bad critique! Everything is a step towards being a better painter!

Oh how I hate the "automatically appendix" system... Great system, but in the way sometimes...

So, even though I can't build or paint anything while away I can still plan how to expand my force. Today I am thinking about allies, and which army that I want.

I don't want another SM or IG army, because I am already building and painting them.

Right now I'm torn between tau and eldar, but I doesn't really know which one that would complete my SM in a good way. Anyone with experience of allies for SM and knows what may fit them?

I'm back! After a two month long "pause" from writing and somewhat painting. To be honest, I haven't had the energy to paint during the weekends at home, the daughter and as of lately wife is taking a lot of my time... But now I've got my spirits up again! My HG is almost complete and I've finished a rhino + some weathering on the finished vehicles and marines.

And I've taken the theme of "Legio" a bit further, naming different units in different ways based on the roman army. For example a company i called a "kohort", the HG/SG is "singulares" and a tactical squad is either called "hastati" (10 man squads) or "principes" (6 man squads, a bit more experienced than the hastati).
Well, enough talking (or rather scribbling), and lets go on to the pics! If anyone is interested in the whole unit-"dictionary" I'll gladly write it down for you!

I've got my second razorback done! Well, almost, there's still a few touch-ups that is needed... Oh well! I've also started on my troops with my first tactical squad for said razorback! They're not done by far, but considering the time I've spent painting them they're coming alone nice and quick!

So, I've been painting a lot, but I don't have many pics to show for it...
Today I have new pics of my tacs, with a completed sergeant Bestia! The rest of the lads has minor details on the bases left, although that was made after these pics were taken.






I've also working on a stormtalon now, the big thing that is left on him is the base and weathering. I'm taking slow, because I don't want the weathering to make it look like a tank...

A small sideproject is a basilisk in the pattern and colours of the swedish army, and it's lightly converted.
