Finally got him finished and I am very pleased with how he turned out. I know there are a lot of anti-Ultramarine players out there so hopefully everyone can appreciate him for what he is

Thanks, I know a lot of people dislike the poster child of GW (despite the codex marine rules being subpar right now). That being said, I don't like the pristine look, so I ensured he looked like he was beat to hell as he should be.

I've always wondered why so many 40K folks dislike the Ultramarines. Even more I wonder why so many love the Space Wolves and Dark Angels, 2 chapters that I personally do not care for. Mostly because I don't like Space Marines that don't wear helmets. /nod

My only CC would be that the banner on the front seems like a bit of a missed opportunity I feel, some writing or something on there would just finish it for me

I've come full circle with the Ultramarines, I think it's become a real cliche to respond to a post about Ultras with "I don't like smurfs but...", so much so that I think Ultras have become cool again. Original Rogue Trader chapter for old skool cred, Greco-Roman IP, stable geneseed, what's not to like?

Back OT, that contemptor is bloody brilliant no matter the chapter, great pose, can just imagine it sweeping those cannons side to side like Blain in Predator. Painting is fantastic too, love the weathering and the metals.

Lovely work, although I agree with "thefatelf" that painting some text on the banner would go a long way to bringing this to the next level.

Mostly because, in terms of fluff, Ultramarines are absolutely bland by design. Also, people tend to have a thing against poster-boys.

The only reason I didn't place "Ultra" on the banner was because of the ripples, the U and A would have been cut in half and it would have looked weird.

By that same token however some of the chapters are so beyond realistic that it is a wonder why people love them so much. If Ultramarines are at point "a" (bland) some chapters are at point "z" (over the top).

I love the detail and weathering you put on this model. You did an excellent job at making it better than the norm that most players are happy to leave it with.

I wanted to put 'Ultra' However the sculpt makes it nearly impossible to fit the word in the given area, too small and it looks like it is forced, too big and in the ripples you'd have to paint the U and A as if they were half in the folds which would be hard to pull off as well, rather than do something I wasn't comfortable with I chose the middle ground and left it blank until I can figure out a good approach.

Thanks, this is the first time I've attempted to freehand anything and the laurel wreaths, while not perfect, turned out really well for my first time. When I did them I snagged a few 'pos' models who look like poop from my desk and tested the free hand on their helmets....annnd when I ran out of that on them I used the sides of their legs lol.

Glad you like them though, I was really worried I would screw them up.

I like to think he is unloading both guns into a swarm of snotlings. Nothing clears the nose better than a pair of assault cannons.
