As some of you read in a thread I posted earlier, I was struggling to make a decision on what fantasy army to restart my glorious path of 8the edition.
Last I left it I was down to 3 choices, skaven, high elves and beastmen. After much thought I decided that while playing is important, this is also a hobby project too. So I decided to go with my gut and chose beastmen as play style and hobby wise they are something completely new to me.
I have started by picking up the book, 2 batallions, great bray shaman and model to represent a beastlord/wargor. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice or suggestions on starting beastmen? Are there any pitfalls to avoid or things I should make a point of getting or doing?
Also I have been looking through some lists and tacticas for advice and I can see the benefit of a bsb in this army, but I keep seeing whats called the 206 BSB, what is that equipped with as I can't find an explanation anywhere.
Thanks for any assistance or advice guys.

I've been reading a lot of Beastmen tactic articles the last few days and this is probably the best one I've come across...

I have had a look at this already and has proven most useful (found it on Herdstone), it's very well written and informative. I was also wondering from a hobby standpoint also though, in terms of best way to build on what I have and general hints where possible.
Thanks

If there's anywhere that can give you advice, it's the Herdstone, a forum dedicated to Beastmen. I've included the link below. Sorry I couldn't have been of more help, I'm in a bit of a hurry atm...

That article is a great intro to beastmen as you play them you will obviously begin to tailor your list to your play style. I find the herdstone forums to be a good place for advice, the only down side is traffic is low so sometimes it can take a few days to get what you are looking for.

As far as modeling goes, better learn how to paint skin
Otherwise, I suggest you start with whichever of the two lists in that first link you like best. I think they're both pretty solid.
My other word of advice is to not take what everyone else says at face value. Almost anything in the book is usable in the right circumstance, so find a good play group and proxy anything you think is cool.
Note: usable is not always the same thing as good
Note note: bestigors are the best.

This is just not true. There is no circumstance when the jabber, cygor and gorgon are worth the points you have to pay for them.

I think the Ghorgon is the best of the 3, but I think any of them would be hard to use effeciently, I'm not saying by any means they are good or bad, I think they would just take a bit of clever tactics/planning to make them worth the points. Something as a bit of a nooblord I'd doubt I could pull off. I'm aiming for a roughly 1000-1500pts force just now, so these kinds of choices I've plenty of time to worry about anyways.
Thanks for the advice guys, also Spyguyyoda, I really appreciated your note note, as the bestigors were one of the reasons I took up the beastmen, so it's good to know I got at least that much right

Huzzah! I'd ordered 20 Gors last week and they arrived yesterday.
Hobby wise, my plan is to get these guys painted up first. I've found in the past that if I can get a single unit of core done, then I'm more likely to stick with the project.
I do however have a problem. Having looked at the sprues, I really, really like the shields and I think they'll add a great deal of character to the unit. However, all the tactics articles say Gors should take additional hand weapons.
Think I'll have to go with shields as they look too cool not to use.

In fantasy most people do not care about wysiwyg as long as your list includes the option in it.

Since noone else answered this:
Wargor w/ Heavy Armor, Shield, Gnarled Hide and the Beast Banner. He has a 2+ armor save with a 6++ parry in CC. He carries a banner that boosts his strength and the strength of his unit, so you usually put him on one corner of a big block (usually horde) of Gor's with Extra Hand Weapons and let them rip through stuff.

You are wrong. My Cygor killed the main wizard of my opponent's tomb king army turn two once. I got to watch his army crumble. The Ghorgon is likewise good and not THAT overpriced.
