For my CSM army I would quite like to include a helbrute. However, the only helbrute that you can buy is the DV one and I don't like the weapon options on it. So my question is, is it legal for you to use a loyalist dread and chaosify it with spare bits to make it look like a helbrute? ( I already have a ton of chaosy bits )

Entirely legal. They look better IMO anyway.

thnx for the reply. I was just worried that if I went to a tourney with one someone would say " Your not allowed to use that model, its illegal!" I also agree with you on the looks of the helbrute as well. Converted dreads look so much better IMO.

Nah, it's quite common. I saw someone using the old chaos dread which was pretty cool. It'd be rather silly if every time GW released a new model it invalidated the old ones. Just make sure that if it's metal, you put it on a base.

Fortunetly I have a DA dread that i don't use any more which I got from the 5 edition starter set. I have already added spikes, chains and leering faces onto it. I have also cut off the multi-melta and power fist. I replaced these with a plasma cannon and missle launcher.

Hellbrute is just a new name for Chaos Dreadnought. As such, any sufficiently chaosy looking Dreadnought model will suffice.

I just picked up a couple of old metal dreadnoughts for just this reason. The one in DV is ornate, but it looks very Khorney. (NPI) I wanted mine sleek and Slaaneshy.

Fy brother had the same question for his old chaos dreads. No one has given him any grief for using chaos dread (or loyalist dread chaos-ified) as helbrutes. To everyone in my local playing groups, the helbrute is just the new chaos dread.

Hopefully they get an actual helbrute kit soon, with real weapon options, other than just the one in DV.

I would convert. The helbrute looks a bit goofy in my opinion. This will be my course of action for my "beat em up" CSMs.

I still just use a standard AOBR marine dread as my CSM dread/hellbrute.

I bought one cause it was cheaper, plus I hate the old model.

I just stuck the horned Defiler helmet on it and stuck a few symbols over the false emperors iconography and it's probably the coolest one I own.

Can't say I hate the vanilla Helbrute as I tend to keep the multi-melta for my DAngles and Space Puppy friends, for close encounters.

Hellbrutes are just the new chaos dreadnoughts. So a regular dread chaosed out would be fine.

Helbrute = Dreadnought with spiky, and maybe fleshy, bits.

That's most certainly a job well done! I'm jealous of your modelling skills. Mine amount to the ability to perform an arm swap and cover any mistakes with GS.

Thnx, im glad you like it! I agree with you on the conversions with the weapons but, im not that keen on the fleshy bits.
