Hey all.

So, over the last week, I have been tearing my hair out, trying to find anything suitably priced (As in, not so pricey I would have to spend over £80 on models for a paltry amount of army points)
to use as an alternative to chaos daemon furies. I have literally scoured the internet looking for anything, i've considered converting tyranid rippers, or spore mines for a floaty, horrid daemonic look, and I've considered using ghostly/etherial cloaked models to represent them, and of course, I have been looking for anything even vaguely gargoylish in my price range. But I cannot find a thing, that isn't selling for something along the lines of £3+ per model. When I need 60, that just isn't justifiable in my mind, even when the hobby is already expensive.

So, if anyone has anything they can reccomend, no matter how outlandish and weird, that I could use as furies without breaking the bank, I would be very grateful. It doesn't have to have wings, or even be humanoid, just something, anything xD

Please help, I don't wanna have to stick with the proxies i'm using now (Miniature rubber table-decorator spider's from haloween, glued to a base, it's a really cringey proxy untill I can find something that works! xD)

I love how, when you do that, the very first link that comes up is this very thread...

I said I had been searching for a week, and yes, in that time, I googled it. But as I said, I could find nothing, that wouldn't set me back almost £100. Hence why I asked here if anyone could think of anything, that might be more within my budget.

Really, because I just spent a couple minutes and found some good alternatives:

- Kroot + wings.
- Daemonettes + wings
- Ungors + wings
- Gargoyles + Daemons Bits box

Pretty much any gw plastic kit + wings works.

Yes, and please note, that GW sells wing's at £8 for 5. Meaning it will set me back £96 for the wing's alone, then an extra £108 for the bodies to put them on.

Like I said, I'm looking for something a little more within my budget, as £200, for 300 points of army, is well beyond that. Please stop attacking me for asking a question.

Gargoyles.

Also, again, 'cheap plastic wings for warhammer furies' on google got me those in the first click or two.

And I'm not attacking you. I'm just pointing out that a modicum of research does wonders.

Also, as an aside, nothing is going to be cheap for 60 models unless you throw out the idea that they will look good in the process.

I'd still be outpriced. I guess I should just scrap the idea, I really have no issue with even having ugly models, those I can try to work with and improve, but it's extremely hard to find them. I have been researching for a week, as I said, I searched for alternative wing's briefly, but in all honestly, I don't like the idea of them having wings anyway, much happier with a model with a floating, or a leaping quality to it.

As the above poster said i don't know if this can be done. I've run into this problem with my DE grotesques, and while conversions will help its still a hefty sum for the amount i want. I honestly think you may have to bite the bullet on this one.

Chose as my first army. Haven't looked back since.

I suppose. :( One thing I did consider, and I like the idea, is using tyranid spore mines, as kind of floaty, grotesque daemonic creatures that latch onto peoples head's. If I could find those going cheap, that would be brilliant. Might get those from GW, it would be around £90 for the squads, but at least i'd be happy with the models that way.

Reaper has a large selection of dragonmen, demons and gargoyles that should work the part. They range in price from $5 to around $8 for figures that are this sized - though that is the MSRP, and you can get discounts of 25-30% on their products without too much effort.

http://www.reapermini.com/OnlineStore/Winged/latest

I understand that it can be a bit more difficult to find them in the UK though, but if you are ordering 60 or so - the shipping for one package from a US supplier shouldn't be too bad. Something like the Gaan-hor warriors should work out to £3.50 each before discount (and shipping if you have to have them sent from the States).

The old Winged War Demons from Ral Partha should be about the right size too. Looking at the Ral Partha Europe website, they retail for £2.95 each or packs of 4 for £9.95. Pretty sure they have something along those lines in their Dark Eye line too if you want additional variety (though the winged war demons should have 6 or so different poses if I am remembering correctly).

Mirliton should have a couple gargoyle/demon types in their Fantasy Warrior line up that they took over from Grenadier. If I am remembering things correctly - they are not so dated as to look out of place with newer figures.

Might also consider some of the Dunwich Horror figures from em4. Again, it is part of an older range - but they have aged relatively well.

I remember a guy that made a whole daemon army out of different sizes of polystyrene cubes that had been sprayed with solvent and paint for a weird melty polychromatic look. There was lots of nerd rage, but I thought it captured the idea of a non-human pure warp type army nicely

If you want that cheap there aren't a lot of options. Either you cast a fury, and mold some more, or you go on manticgames.com.

They do just about the cheapest models out there. There are seasonally deals (forty zombies, forty corporation marines) for thirty euro last Halloween i think. That's 80 detailed models for thirty quid. Wait untill they do this again and proxy whatever comes out as furies. Crazy bag (in which you get load of random models) is one they do often and you should get loads of converting bits.

Sorted out the issue now, gonna be using tyranid rippers, painted all in a mishmash of daemonic colours, and using bit's from my bit'sbox for daemons to give them little tentacles and such.

Can get them on ebay very cheap (30 actual rippers, for around £15) and they have that floaty, vicious swarm look that I like. Plus, since barely anyone uses rippers, It will be easy enough to get away with, not like using converted gaunts or something
