So years ago my friend dropped out of the hobby and left me a lot of Tau which has been boxed away for about 6 years maybe even more! I dug it out now theres a new codex an I'm going to repaint it up! Anyway I now have 9 stealth suits and I don't see them in any of the builds so far on the forum? It would be a shame to see them going to waste so I'm looking for some advice on their use? At least until I get a riptide or two :-P Thanks guys

not holding the TAU codex, can't say specifics.. but what I found with many codex's is to go extremely cheap and basic with the units you WANT whilst kitting out the rest of army in traditional methods in small matches (1000ish pts)..
Then you can see what those units are/aren't capable of against this or that and expand on it slowly..
For instance I had Rough riders in IG.. sent a large group in.. got powned.. sent a basic unit in for a few games.. saw what they couldn't!! do.. sent a couple of small groups (3 groups of three in this case in a non-flyer list) in and VIOLA!!! ...
Ultimately if you can't find guidance on dakka then its trial and error.. but START SMALL... (KISS- keep it simple stupee)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
ps- in case you're not aware.. Rough riders are the joke of IG.. even worse than ratlings... I still have lists that win against few other armies.. but only in specific cases with a synergistic army..
Point is just because most say theyr no good doesn't mean squat!! find what synergises on your favourite units and build there.... no point in fielding an army you don't love IMO

Stealth suits are really not great, hence why you don't see them in many builds. Being only T3 with a single wound means they die to lasguns, their saving grace is a 2+ in cover, but since they are 30 pts a pop you won't have many in a unit, any 1s rolled for saves is going to hurt dearly, and when you're only T3, you're going to be rolling a lot of saves.

Keep them in cover and hope for the best, move forward to fire if you need, and then use your assault move to get back into cover.

Expensive as it is, you can buy shield drones to boost their durability.

You can add Shadowsun to the unit, she can provide 3++ drones which makes them even more durable. On the downside this is a lot of points to spend on a unit that isn't much good in the first place.

Stealth suits are an excellent outflanking unit. 2+ cover saves and JSJ make them hard to kill, while 4 shots per model at strength 5 means they can do damage to infantry and vehicles alike. That said, they are in a very competitive slot so may not feature in all builds.

Yea I can see their faults but maybe a couple of uses! They will be getting run for a few games at least until I expand a little more so I'll see how they get on I suppose! Thanks a mill

I have always liked my stealthsuits. Use them as flanking and harrassment units but I wouldn't take more than 4 in a squad to keep costs down.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Stealthsuits are a great way to infiltrate a positional relay and what not 18" from the enemy, in just enough cover to give you a nasty cover save, while remaining shooty enough to scare away people that want to dislodge you. Of all of the Tau units, Stealthsuits imo have the best ability to control the midfield and handle the units that traditionally are good mid-field controllers, like Orks. With boost to range of the Fusion gun, that 18" infiltration can be a threat to transports that want to surge forward and hit your gunline.

Outflanking is another viable option; I've half a mind to combine them with Nightstrider in a fish with carbine warriors and EMP grenades and some suicide fusion suits.

I like to run6 of them in a squad and before i gave them all TAs but now ill give the 2 fusion guys target locks so they can fire at which ever vehicle is in range while the rest target troops with 16 shot

.........eventually anyways.........
