Subject: How big is the Riptide? Will it fit Infinity?

I was thinking of buying a Riptide and converting it as a TAG, but I don't know how big it is compared to other TAG models. I'm also thinking of buying some 40k vehicles and de-Imperialize them to add as terrain or mission objectives (a Valkyrie for example, will look boss if used as a transport carrier for some missions), although I have no idea what to do with the proportion difference with the Valkyrie's pilots.
Any photos of the Riptide compared to a TAg or an Infinity model?

Looking at this picture, it's absurd:
Infinity TAGs are usually about twice to three times the height of a human. That leaves them between the size of a 40k Dreadnought (or the new Broadside) and a 40k Wraithlord. As the picture shows, the Riptide is two to three times even those models.
It definitely won't fit unless you're trying to make a scenario where someone built a TAG big enough to combat Godzilla.

Someone asked the reverse question in the 40K forum a few days ago (using a TAG for Riptide); the general feeling was that they were too small. I haven't seen a photo with TAG's but this one is with a dreadnought.
EDIT: Damn ninjas, shoo!

On the other hand, the Broadside will be a better fit with some conversions. Might get a broadside and maybe convert it and make a scenario out of it. Terrorists made a super TAG to level a city and your team needs to destroy it quick.
Any idea on what to do with the Valkyrie pilots, though?

Yeh, as shown, TAGs are tiny in comparison. Honestly I'd say they were pretty tiny next to a dreadnought too due of the petite nature of true scale.
Kill the super TAG before it can be activated would be a good way to fit it in though.
As for the Valks, I'd just paint over the clear cockpits rather than fuss with converting the internals from scratch. I'd also suggest adding true scale details to make it more convincing.

I want it to be clear, though. More conversion opportunities. Haven't converted anything for so long since I switched to Infinity so I want to scratch that itch.
I guess I should remove all the Imperial signs and add more realistic guns? What else would I need to do to make it look true scale?

Ahh, clear canopy is a tougher job. Start off by replacing the pilots obviously. I don't have one so i'm not sure if the chairs and devices would be way to big. If they aren't massive you might be able to get away with a pilot swap.
You're a great painter but I don't know what level of converting you're comfortable with so I'm not sure what you'd be up for doing. I'll see if there is any examples in your gallery shortly. What I can say now is check the boarding suit in my Necromunda blog. I put an a Nomad Zero Hacker in a chair by cutting out and resculpting the waist to knee area. It's not the best work but you could certainly copy or improve upon it.
If the chairs are a little big you could go with some if the larger HI miniatures which may match up better.
Yeh I'd swap any weapons for ones that suit better. For big guns copy TAG weapons but scratchbuild them so you don't have to buy a whole TAG per gun. For small guns go with HMG size Infinity weapons to better match the heroic scale of the Valk.
Other than that, look for details that seem too large. Hold a miniature up to them to check if need be. You might also want to add some new details in the correct scale as a trick. If you are going to add signs and such at the painting stage you might consider making them a little smaller than you normally would to reinforce that this vehicle is much larger than it would be on average.
Actually, there might even be a slight conversion that would bring the size down and give you a more futuristic look to the whole thing. I'll have a look in a few hours when I'm free and get back to you.

All of my dreadnoughts and HQ on my 40k army is heavily converted. I'm still learning how to sculpt with greenstuff (I have the tools and everything and I've sculpted my Odalisque's hair quite nicely but still not that experienced) but cutting up various pieces and putting them together and filling the gaps in is fair game.

Here in the Philippines we have an abundance of cheap Chinese plastic toys that can be suitable for the job. It's just a matter of looking for the right parts. That, or I can always go with cheap Gundam weapons: the gatling gun of a Heavy Arms Custom will fit nicely, if I buy the smaller scales(i.e. ones that are smaller than 1/144 and are not articulated).

Did someone just think up an awesome game? Off to eBay to find a appropriately sized Godzilla!!!!

Had a look and your conversion work is clearly solid. I would suggest giving the pilot swap a go, it's not too difficult as greenstuffing goes and if you prefer you could salvage the thighs and maybe more so you have less to sculpt. The only thing is you'll have to find a model that works with the scale of the chair. Here is my example but I'm sure you can do better:

That's good, pillage some cheap toys if you can find something that works on the right scale and aesthetic.
Had a look at the Valk kit too. I think a good idea would be to cover up those engines to some extent, all that bare machinery and wiring is a bit grimdark for Infinity. It shouldn't be too difficult to cover. Other than that just add a few details using truescale. Handrails, signs, weapon racks, handles and loose equipment are all good additions to serve as a scale reminder.
Oh and take pictures so we can all ooh and aah!

Isn't there an infinite number of cheaper, more detailed giant robot kits available to use in Infinity that would fit a lot better than the Riptide?
Really like the giant monster fight idea, especially if he/she/it isn't even the main focus of the scenario, the two sides are trying to get something done while Giant Monstar tears up the neighborhood.

Oooooh, now I love that idea!
Casey: I'm not about to spend precious dollars on a riptide. They retail for 100$, so it's 115$ with taxes here. Especially when I have a very nice eBay seller in Japan would can hook me up with classic Destroids and Battroids.

I thought so too, till I got to see one up close.
The only glaring problem that I've seen most people bring up is that the head being as small as it is on that large body throws off the aesthetic.
I'm fine with it, since the pilot isn't actually poking his head up into it. Kind of reminds me of that whole bit in Iron Man 2 where Justin Hammer is trying to get the "suits" built.

Haha, yeh fair enough. Plus I'm massively disapointed in the Tau release but that's another conversation for another thread.
You should definitely get a big Godzilla and make a scenario out of it though.

Heartserenade - I'm a bit surprised mate, living in the Phillipines don't you get access to any of the Japanese robot kits over there? Not just Gundam and the like, when I lived in Korea I saw loads of plastic kits that knocked the stuffing out of the Riptide - price, complexity, detail and style (although I realise that last one is subjective! )

It's more of... when I buy a Gundam Kit, I need to assemble it as a Gundam. I don't want to ruin its beauty. It should not avoid its destiny. I have no qualms in trying to change the Riptide.
It's my thing with conversion: I have to be unsatisfied with how it looks and make it satisfactory.
As with other robot kits, only Gundam kits are prevalent here. No, cheap Chinese toy robots don't count since they mostly suck and can only be used for spare parts you'll hack away like a robotic Frankenstein. But they're cheap.
As for the giant robot scenario, I also thought of using Dust's Heavy Panzer Walker. It could be used as a mecha that will level a city, AND a mecha that will fight Godzilla.
