I'm wanting to create a rather unique Pellas Mir'San (Captain of the Salamanders 2nd Company) to command my Salamanders, but other than giving him long hair (My first attempt at GS hair!), I've rather run out of inspiration for him as I'm focusing on other models at the moment. So I thought i'd put it to Dakka.

Any suggestions and advice are welcome.

Here's my attempts so far, It's all Blu-tacked aside from head to torso so all replacements/additive suggestions are welcome.

You could greenstuff scales onto the outside of his cloak and maybe flames onto the inside corners. Or possibly sculpt flames onto one of his shoulder pads if you have room.

Hmm, not a bad idea wit the corner flames. I have sculpted scales on a Terminator Sergeants cloak before and it took a hell of a long time, so I think i'll avoid scales and go with your idea of flames. The right shoulder pad, i'm thinking, will have a sword piercing flames as Pellas Mir'san is known as the 'Winter Blade'.

Not digging the backpack out of the captains kit on this one. The eagle heads kind of detract from the tone of the model itself. Maybe a lotd backpack wouls suit the model better? Beyond this,, it may not be a bad thing to spring for an appropriate pair of grey knght arms, trim the inquisitorial iconography off of the sword and storm bolter, and give yourself a model with a truly iconic and awe-inspiring pose. I gotta say, though, I think the scales on the cape would make for some very good all around project viewing, rather than just front-side. Last suggestion: drop a couple of bucks for a salamanders shoulderpad, which will serve to add to the gravitas of the model, texturally.

I see what you mean by the Grey Kinght arms - very dramatic! My only thought with using the Captains arm was that having it extended, and the head twisted looks as if he is challenging an unseen foe. But the GK arms are certainly a possibility.

As for the LotD backpacks, I can certainly see how they would improve the model, but as they're Finecast I'm not sure if they would be seperate from the Torso.

Your probably right about the scales (Not more GS nightmares ).

Forgeworlds Shoulder pads - I found them very hard to stick to a set of plastic Terminators as they seemed to be out of proportion and the resin doesn't take to glue too well, if you've had any did you have the same problem?

@Shamikebab - I've never heard of him having two and Lexicanum certainly does not list him as possessing two, but i'll have a further look into that idea as it would certainly suit him.

I've not used the FW pads, but my experience with FW has been largely positive. You just have to remember to scrub it down with warm, soapy water first.

Oh! You see I didn't wash them first - possibly it's some sort of manufacturing/moulding grease that prevented me from attaching them properly.... Thanks a lot for pointing that out!

Always wash FW, or any other resin product. Mold release is a real bitch when it comes to building, and more so when it comes to painting.

Pella's wargear is listed as: power weapon, combi-flamer, and Cinder Edge (a master crafted power sword)...
so, two blades and a combi-flamer...

i was thinking of using a Grey Knight longsword, and a falcion, one in each hand, and then have a combi-flamer on a strap...

personally, i like Sallies with hair to have dreadlocks...
they seem to be one of the only Marine chapters that screams for dreads...
they are really easy to make with little snakes of green stuff...

also, Dark Elf Corsair cloaks are already scaled, and look really good on the Alpha Legion conversions that i've seen...
might want to look at those...

food for thought...
good luck...

@ jah-joshua - I'd be interested to know where you got that info (I don't play the game or own any codexes so I can only go by Internet research, Lexicanum or BL novels).

I like the idea of a combi-flamer. I may get a GK arm, remove the Storm-Bolter and add on an arm mounted flamer - not exactly combi-flamer, but still appropriate I guess. I'm not personally all that keen on dreadlocks, and considering Pellas Mir'San is supposedly 200 years old, I rather think that bedraggled long hair suits him more IMHO. I think if I do decide upon a scaled cloak, i'll simply convert this one as I like the contours of it and am releativly proficient at makeing scale cloaks (I did some for a couple of Salamander Termies)

Thanks a lot for the suggestions everyone - much appreciated.

i simply did a Google search of "Pellas Mir'san rules", and the first result was this:

http://huntersofthewarp.forumakers.com/t2138-badab-war-special-characters

it lists the Wargear of all the characters...
