Depends on your army, what you need those units to do and how it meshes with your overall force.
For example, there's no point in taking terminators in the elite slot if you've already got troop terminators.
Another example is why take a fast attack or elite unit that's great at killing infantry when your whole army is?

What army?
What mission?
Tournament special rules to consider?
What is your army missing?
etcetc
As orks its dead obvious what elites to bring - lootas and nothing else as our Nobz are always a troop choice anyway thanks to the boss that follows them around.

I am referring to the new Tau list.
It has 3 elite choices...wondering what people use each suit for..and thoughts on the suits in general
And there is a ton of fast attack..thoughts on those, what they use them for..etc.
Also, the sniper choice in the Heavy section..any good?

I'd suggest changing the thread title to Tau elites and Fast Attack then.
Not everyone plays Tau, after all, and won't assume that every thread is about them
Also, any advice on unit utility or tactics will depend on:
1/. what mission it is
2/. what terrain you usually play with (density, fire lanes)
3/. What armies you play against.
For example Burnaboyz, a fave of mine, like Purge the Alien as a mission, work best in a dense terrain like a ruined city because they aren't getting nailed from the other end of the board and work best against Eldar, DE, Guard etc

My group and I build TAC lists...so it would based on that.
So I am just trying to get a break down of each unit in the Tau codex for Elites and Fast
But I will create an other topic in Tactics for all Tau units.

I`d be looking at two iontides with other bits and a 6 man stealth suit team. Namely cos my leader would be Shadowsun.
Fast attack wise 5 piranha`s. Drop the drones off and make a squad of drones for next to no points and 2 bare 8 man path finder squads
