So I am working on a friends Cygnar models and decided that certain parts need to be metallic (yellow). I am trying to find a great metallic medium. I know about Vallejo's but its like $6 plus shipping. I stopped into Hobby Lobby yesterday and they didn't have anything.

Ideas please.

Now, when you say mettallic (yellow), do you mean gold? Could you try and elaborate your use for the paint?

Nope literally mean taking using a metallic medium to make a regular acrylic paint into a metallic.

Hmm... well, i know liquitex paints sells a iridescent medium that you could add to regular paint, but I think that might just make your yellow glittery looking. I will do some research to help you out with this endeavor.

This is some hobby laquer that is "Metallic Yellow".

...and I looked up some pigment that you could add to clear acrylic medium - (Golden Acrylics and Liquitex sells this) and found this on Amazon

Its Metallic Yellow pigment powder.

I hope this helps!

Having some experience with this product, I can safely say this: Liquitex's iridescent medium is nice, but I recommend using smaller quantitiesand working in thinned layers, since it will still serve to dilute your pigmentation. It works nicely with reds and blues, but you will almost need to undercoat your yellow with something close to your desired end shade and hue before going near the stuff. Tread carefully when using it, and if you're buying from a store, check and see if they carry a bright gold that might better suit your needs before making the commitment to something that can be pricey and is only sold in fairly large quantities.

Things I've gotten other players to admit...

That metallic pigment actually looks pretty cool. I'm gonna give it a try.
