The title says it all, really Just curious what the community usually does.

Me, I'm a fan of listening to "Let's Play". I have always been a gamer and there's a lot of games I wished to play but since there's not enough time for everything, LP really help.

If anyone's curious, I'm currently watching / hearing the whole Helloween4545's playlist, a very funny brittish while I take care of my wraiths.

Documentaries with a soft spoken British narrator work surprisingly well, as do podcasts, discussions on the radio and the full discography of the Doors.

Are you Dutch? Do you live in Zeeland, and want to join a cool, friendly club to play your games? Give me a PM!

One of three things
1) Like above, documentaries and random shows that are listenable (How It's Made, Dirty Jobs, Survivorman have been recents)
2) My normal playlist, which has a bits of a few different genres. A bit of industrial, a dash of stoner rock, some jrpg game music, and a pinch of electronica.
3) Podcasts. A lot of Joe Rogan, Greg Proops, Critical Hit (D&D), Doug Benson, Bert Kreischer, etc.

Whatever it is, it becomes white noise at a point, which helps me block out the world for a bit.

I always watch or listen to something while painting and modelling.

When I'm watching something, I try to make it something not to distracting. I used to watch a lot of Discovery channel, but lately it just feels like I've seen it all a million times. Right now I'm finishing up two predators while watching full metal alchemist brotherhood for the umpteenth time, but my playlist can include anything from supernatural and fringe, to star wars and LoTR. I try not to watch things new that I really want to see, or it distracts me too much. I also enjoy watching battle reports as well as vids from Blue Table Painting on YouTube. Here is the link, http://www.youtube.com/user/bluetablepainting. They do battle reports, random talks about life, and talk about and show off projects. If you are a mediocre painter like me, and like to feel utterly incapable, check this out.

When I'm listening to something, I enjoy various genres of rock and metal (the music I play on drums/bass). My friends often wondering how listening to blaring loud fast paced music can help me stay calm and focused while modelling/painting. But then they also wonder how with ADHD I manage to hold still to paint/model for hours on end.

When we play, we usually have a large blend of music playing in the background. Not too loud, as shouting moves to your opponent gets tedious. Because we have varying tastes in music, the play list is huge and rather random. I'll never forget the time playing an ork player when 3IOB "Destroy the orks" came on, we just looked for a couple seconds, then he slumped his shoulder and went "well I can't argue with the rock of fate".

Powermetal mostly. Bands like Eluveitie and Ensiferum work well when working on the Sons of Russ. Hammerfall is good for general muhreens (highly recommended for BT players).
Other than that, battle reports are good to watch. Sometimes documentaries of random gak from MWG.

Whereas to an englishman the taking of a sledgehammer to crack a nut is a wrong decision and a sign of mental immaturity, to a russian the opposite is the case. In russian eyes the cracking of nuts is clearly what sledgehammers are for.

Good to see so many different tastes . I thought about sharing some other stuff I hear:

- Supradarky's channel in youtube. Lots of video game music, updated almost daily.

- audiobooks, both 40k and free online. I like to hear Lovecraft's work. Some radio shows are really, really good and do a great justice to the Cthulhu mythos. There are some in youtube aswell.

The soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian, because Basil Poledouris is amazing and his music makes anything epic.

Something with a driving beat. What normal people would dance to I use for creative work. Inducing a good fugue state really gets me in the zone.

Sometimes the more mediocre the music the better; it doesn't draw you out of your work as much as music you particularly like to hear. (I remember I once wrote a whole essay while listening to Avril Lavigne. Thankfully I barely remember doing it.)

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
