Just something I came across while looking through the eldar codex, I noticed Mindwar doesn't specify enemy model in the discription. It reads ''The eldar player may choose an unengaged model within 18'' of the farseer within line-of-sight...blah blah'' and it got me thinking are there some instances where killing your own model could be favourable? And could you do it? Say think of the last tau codex, you could mindsnipe your own allied Etherial to give the tau PE, or with the newer tau incarnation mindsnipe the drones off Shadowsun, making her an independent character or even killing off the single eldar who held the big ork hoard up, stopping you from shooting them off the bored. Im not sure if there are anyother uses, but im sure there is a few more.

So my rules question is can you target your own model if it doesn't specify enemy model? I remember hearing about something like this for the vindicare assasin an editition or 2 ago where he could snipe ANYONE on any team, even into combat.

You can not target a friendly unit.

Pretty sure this is accurate. Since mind war is used in the shooting phase, I believe it's a psychic shooting attack. Pretty sure the BRB tells us that we cannot shoot at our own models.

It is a PSA. Per the Eldar FAQ.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Just to play Devil's Advocate:

Q. Which Eldar psychic powers are psychic shooting attacks? (p28)
A. Destructor, Eldritch Storm and Mind War (though they include
a few exceptions to the normal shooting rules, as specified in
their description).

Would the part about it saying to target "a model" instead of "an enemy model" constitute an "exception to the normal shooting rules" (specifically you can only target enemy models)?

No because in order to override the restriction on not targeting friendly models you need specific permission - such as Inquisitor Karamazov.

The exception is you target a model instead of a unit. So for example, you could choose the HWT in an Infantry Platoon.

I would say no, since for a rule to override the normal rules, it must explicitly say something to the contrary of said normal rules. This wording is vague and ambiguous, so definitely not explicit. IMO anyhow.

Just a thought that occurs...

Desperate Allies units do not count as friendly for the targetting of psychic powers, but they do count as enemies (albeit on your side) . Could you Mind War your ally?

Not fussed if you can, really, but it is an interesting thought..

Shadowsun is always an independent character that can join units, even if she has drones.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

yeah. pretty sure the 'shooting' target rules would stop you doing this. Also the spirit of the game... it's pretty obvious this isn't intended.

I guess that would also mean an IC could use look out sir on it too?
