Painted for a local competition. I wanted to depict a suit that had been on the frontline for months on an Icy Forge world. I was trying to get a Stalingrad/WW2 feel with the paint scheme.

Also the only rust on the model is on the shrapnel on the ground from Imperial Tanks. The Tau are smart enough to build their weapons out of metals that don't rust the moment the paint scratches off.

Oh and Ions are totally green right?

That looks stunning. I know a lot of it is skill and paint manipulation, but can you give your colour recipe?

Actually It's basically just one colour followed by lots and lots of weathering

The colour is VMA US Light Grey.

However if you go and look at the paint on their site they claim it's grey. Mine is quite definitely a light green. I have no idea why this is.

Anyway after spraying the model with that I then washed it with GW Athonian Camoshade. Once dry I reapplied the US Light Grey with a sponge creating a mottled effect and the sponge only hits the raised surfaces so the wash was left in the recesses and hard to reach spots.

The rest was all sponge work with VMA GunGrey and VMA Aluminium (both metallics) and lots of weathering powders, washes and general messiness.

The glowing Ion accelerator chambers used GW Moot Green through to VMA Duck Egg Green before painting the inner most parts pure white.

Wow the Iron Giant look really works for Tau. I didn't think it would. Great job. The base looks fantastic, also.

I think you did a really good job making the Tau fit in with the grittiness of the 40k universe, which most people don't. Major Props.

This looks sweet man! Subtle, non-cartoonish, realistic looking metallic finish. Not easy to do. Great pose, great basing, and all-around awesome!
