Okay, so I just finished story mode for Gods Among Us about 20 minutes ago. I thought I'd give you my thoughts and opinions on the game. I will be avoiding giving spoils, even in spoiler marks-too many people read those out of curiousity, and I don't want to help ruin the story.

The story: Great! It followed a similar pattern to the Justice League movie Crisis on Two Earths. Only difference, Batman is a good guy, and the rest of the League joins Superman as Earth's dictators. If you've played the iPhone game, you already know the sides: Regime is Superman's team, after the events that drive Superman mad. Insurgency is the side of Batman, seeking to stop Superman's twisted view. Just like Mortal Kombat 9, the plot works, and there is actual story in the game-don't just skip ahead. Unlike Mortal Kombat, the story is short-I beat it in 6 hours, and that includes a break to go shower, grab lunch, talk on the phone and start writing this. Mortal Kombat took 3 times as long. So story mode is quite short.
8/10 (Great story, too short)

Unlockables: there aren't any. Sure, you earn keys to get additional costumes and access parts of additional stages, but lets face it-when we want unlockables, we want additional characters-where is Red Robin? I was 95% sure I saw him in gameplay, and turns out it was Shazam? Don't get me started on the name, either...Mortal Kombat has a pretty decent history of giving 2-3 additional, unlockable characters in each game, so where are they NR?
3/10 (you get costumes and levels, no new characters)

"Finisher moves": These are great. Aquaman stabs you with his trident, and feeds you to a great white shark. Yes, please! Bane breaks your back. Joker shoots you in the face, then blasts you with a bazooka. The list goes on. Tons of fun, and they can be combo'd into. They're over the top just enough that comic book fans will rejoice. They also tie into the characters' personalities and built up abilities very well. That probably goes without saying. These are like the X-Rays of MK9.
10/10 (fun, can turn the tide of battle, won't always sucker your opponent into them)

Graphics: They're on par with MK9. Those graphics were awesome then, still really good, but this game is 2 years older-graphics should have improved a little bit at least. Not to say they're bad: they're amazing. But there are plenty of better game-graphics out there from games months/a year older than this one.
7.5/10 (due to no improvements over MK9)

Multiplayer: Ooooo, boy! This is a blast with the guys. The multiplayer is best shared with somebody in the room with you. The ridiculous laughter of Joker bludgeoning/shooting you with his entire arsenal, only to kill you, douse you in lighter fluid, then set fire to your newly designed corpse...wow. Share it with a friend, it's worth it. Played for hours last night, didn't get old.
(10/10)

Controls: Take getting used to. Many of us who are used to MK blocking will have issues-this game uses Street Fighter style blocking-hold back on the joystick. Combos are definitely harder to pull off than MK, but with a lot of practice and good timing, eventually you'll be able to juggle your opponent like a pro. That said, I got juggled by a couple guys in the game and couldn't even stand up-I lost a fight to the computer without landing a single hit in two rounds of combat-something that should never happen, but the juggle system lends to abuse at times, especially with the timing of a machine.
8/10 (due to a dick computer)

Replayability: Multiplayer is obvious-unending replayability. Perfect ten for this, as it will only get old when your buddies get bored. Single Player is the tougher one. You'll want to play it through again in a year, just like any good movie you like: you want to watch it multiple times, but you don't want it to get boring and old. Finish, set it down, wait a few months, do it again. It'll still be enjoyable, but nothing will change from the first time you played it, other than an improvement of your own skills.
9/10 (combines a 10/10 multi, 8/10 story)

Computer controlled characters: You may wonder why I stuck this in here, the reason is that NR decided to be cruel to us players-the computer brains improve as you play. If you beat your previous foe too easily, the next one will be more challenging. Sure, the next character should always be a bit harder, but keep on winning, and it hits over-kill limits. That juggling I mentioned earlier? 8 wins in a row, and the next guy just juggled me, I couldn't stand up, block or do anything. And I'm an old hand at fighting games, especially MK. However, lose that fight and the AI goes way down in skill-it resets, if you will, so you shouldn't lose again. Makes it a struggle the better you play, but won't frustrate you. Superman as a boss is the same way, so nobody has to worry about Shao Khan levels of douchebaggery from MK9.
9/10 (great AI skill level, unending juggles suck)

I haven't played the towers or star labs yet, so there is still more to do. But everything I've played so far runs it around an 8.5/10 for me. I love it, and I'll keep playing it. I think I preferred MK9 a bit more, but this game will definitely be played for a long time. Give it a go, it's worth buying. If you liked MK9, you'll like this one (unless you hate DC comics).

Been playing this. Yeah, still can't figure out how to block successfully. But the graphics are pretty incredible for a game on your PHONE! I mean, wow.

It's also fairly fun, if a bit of a button-masher. More like a synchronized tapping/swiping game, which is really what it all boils down to. How fast or precisely can you swipe/tap?

In my case, not very fast or precise :p

The phone game is awesome too. Use both thumbs together to block. I think I actually prefer the free phone version! More play=more unlocks. And unlike the regular version, you won't beat thru the "main" game in a day. I've been playing for over a week, and I'm only halfway through.

Oh good. That makes me happy.

My copy hasn't arrived yet (though I have the demo). Looking forward to it. Looks like a lot of fun.

I'm just annoyed that I seemingly will be unable to obtain the "Arrow" skin.

The skin shenanigans with various skins only available through various outlets or mobile games or pre-orders is the typical anti-consumer bs we should expect from a publisher paranoid of used games sales (why do you think the Catwoman section was cut from Arkham City at the last second and turned into a download code add-on). I remember when different skins in a fighting game were either secret (press button X, Y and Z together twice and you are now in that costume) or were unlocks. None of this pay extra crap.

I actually really want to play that Red Son section but I have no interest in pre-ordering the game from Gamestop for that so I wont be buying the game anytime soon.

Maybe when you can buy it as DLC after the price has gone way down

Thanks for your review. I also checked out others.

I was curious, but really unsure how this title would be.

I played the Mortal Kombat vs DC game, it wasn't very good.

But this looks like a really good experience, a worthwhile buy.

The "Arrow" skin was actually from having been one of the first 5000 people to vote in any of the "Battle Arenas" that they did.

The only problem is that they didn't announce that fact until after the Battle Arenas...

I'm not adding to my earlier review, but I'm just gonna say that I tried playing multi-player online and absolutely hated the experience. My character didn't respond to command prompts, and I got three matches in a row of just watching my opponent beat the gak out of me without being able to stand up. Online is competitive. But if you are still a rookie, you're gonna be up gak's creek. I'm a seasoned pro at MK though, and it's weird that this game is more difficult for me. Also, the iPhone version is far more addictive. I turned off the Xbox version after beating story, and had no withdrawl issues. I can't go more than a few hours without playing the phone version.

I actually need some help getting unlocks for the iOS game, by playing online against people. Anyone who has the game, want to let me pummel them a round or two to unlock Batman Beyond and 25000 credits for my phone? I'll do the same for any iPhone/iPad user. And if you really wanna take some time, girl power to get Arkham costume Harley (she's a gold character in the phone!!!) I have an Xbox, same SN as here, so send me a message on here or the Xbox and we can link up and get some bonus costumes.
