So it looks like a rumor is that shadow warriors are going to be a troop/core choice. So this means in effect, you could run an all skirmish style army like WE's. I wonder if this was done with the WE's army in mind. Like as a test for an skirmish army. Maybe GW will check forums hear the feedback even try it out themselves, before releasing WE's to gauge success of a possible release/sales. Sort of a free play test evil genius plan. But then I also thought that if you could run HE's as WE's, what purpose (aside from fluff), would WE's serve? So would it be possible for GW to drop WE's and/or fold them over into the HE book?

Thoughts?

I wouldn't care about effectiveness.

I would go full out on a Shadow Warriors as Core force.

I would be all for an all shadow warrior core if they came out with a plastic kit for them instead of finecast/metal.

I wasn't bringing up the effectiveness of a skirmisher based army, I'm asking if anyone thinks this might mean the end of WE's in the eyes of GW.

Such an army would not be very effective. At the moment. We're not sure how good Shadow Warriors are going to be in the new book.

I very much doubt it would end the WEs though. WE will get a ton of cool new stuff when they're re-released.

I think you want 'sarcasm', not 'irony'?

Anyway, given the HE aversion to core currently, I could see lots of core points in useful skirmisher (I have no idea if they'll be useful or not) offsetting large blocks of special troops. Basically where other armies would use solid core blocks HE would use solid special blocks, and where other armies would use small skirmisher special units (ala Gutter Runners or what have you) HE would use core skirmisher groups.

Guess it will largely depend on what they're capable of.

If they're at all semi useful I'm up for using them. Skirmishers can be a real PITA (see Chameleon Skinks), especially if they have some semi-decent shooting. The new models are also pretty awesome.

Chameleons are also scouts and not a core choice .

No, absolutely not. The WE at times have been a very popular army and they have a unique aesthetic with all the tree kin.

Skink skirmishers are core by the way and incredibly useful but they are also cheap, have blowguns that can shoot twice and most importantly of all have poison.

I am sure that this new unit will be a great tool for the HE but we need to see point cost and special rules. I prefer regular skink skirmishers over chameleons because of their cost and against most armies I face the scout rule is not a huge help

Well its going to boost sales for wood elfs cause everyone who wants shadow warriors cheaper are going to realise that glade guards are the poor mans shadow warriors.

Shadow Warriors are not core. Bubble burst.
