Read the 4th line. The first one is in English, the fourth is supposedly "German"

German? More like ORKISH!

The Germans have cooler names for all the models though.

The battlewagon is called a kampfpanzerwagen or something like that, which is AT LEAST 200% cooler.

I looked on the GW site to see if this is true, and its called an Ork-kampfpanza

The Orks originally had a very German punk/WW1 theme, with Pickelhaubes, spikes, bikes, Stielhandgranates, rock music and black leather and they still do, though it's slightly more toned down.

The ww2 german anti-tank weapons were the tank fist (panzerfaust) and the tank fear (panzerschreck). They do have a way with words

My other favourite german words are auflauf and warscheinlich, but neither is particularly relevant

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I'm quite happy with most of the german names too. Sturmflut sounds better than Riptide, Geißel better than Defiler and Venator better than Ravener

They call them Tank Knockers? That's hilariously appropriate.

I want to see the Ork Codex in German. That has to be the most orky codex of them all.

Can you imagine the awesome that is the ork language in German?

Note to self.

1. Learn German
2. Acquire German Ork Codex.
3. Make Audio book reading said codex in German.
4.???????
5. Profit

So what does the ork speech translate to in German? For example, in English they sound like a mixture between soccer hooligans, punk rockers, and drunk scottish demomen. I just can't imagine what the Germans would use for their "bizarre speech" bit.

Actually me neither

Actually, it's tank crackers (knacken = to crack something open). Panzerknacker is, unintendedly funny, also the same name that Disney's Beagle Boys (Boyz?) got in German

MrMoustaffa wrote:So what does the ork speech translate to in German? For example, in English they sound like a mixture between soccer hooligans, punk rockers, and drunk scottish demomen. I just can't imagine what the Germans would use for their "bizarre speech" bit.

Ever since Baldur's Gate attempted to translate English accents to German accents (Scottish -> Bavarian, Irish -> Colonian, etc.), which was both a disaster and hilarious, translations usually try to just mimic those accents in German, without actually reflecting a real accent.
In German, the Ork-language sounds lazy, thick-headed and stubborn, which is pretty much what it is supposed to present. Really, really drunk might actually be very close, too

Funnily enough, most Ork units and items were given new English names, rather than actual German ones (Deff Dread -> Gargbot, Deffkopta -> Killa Kopta, Trukk -> Pikk-Up, Nob -> Boss). In addition all occurrences of "War" were replaced with "Waaagh", giving us Waaaghbikers and Waaaghbosses.
There are a couple of odd ones, too, for example the Shokk Attakk Gun become Snotzogga (well, it does zog snotlings...) and Flash Gits become Posaz.

As someone who speaks both languages, I can say that at least the spirit of the Ork fluff was transported to German very well. The rules however...

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

What I like about this topic is no German bashing.
I find anything sounds cool in German.
Heard Queen's song "One World" sung in their language.
I swear one part of it sounds exactly like "Get me a light beer for da world!".
I like Industrial music and it seems to be the one stop country for this style.

The Spanish translation "El Cataclismo" is even cooler.

Taken from Websters,

Definition of NOB
1
: head 1

2
: a jack of the same suit as the starter in cribbage that scores one point for the holder —usually used in the phrases his nob or his nobs

3
: Da boss whats bigga den da boyz but not as big as da Warboss.

In English slang, 'Nob' is short for 'noble'... It's presumably a corruption of that.
