So my first forays with green stuff to sculpt and actual thing heralded a very odd looking Daemon monster originally the concept was for a daemon engine that scooped up victims to act as a kind of CPU for the engine.

Yeah not great
So Mk2 became a Nurgle daemon prince, bare in mind this is several months later when I picked him up again

Still not quite there, gave him a milliput skin with a stitched together look and a massive scythe but the wings didn't fit right and I didn't like the stooping legs
Cutting the Legs off took some time as the whole thing was sculpted together so a couple of weeks for the cuts to heal and I finally worked out what i wanted to do
Plaguewind Djinn

Gotta paint him up and take the knot of intestines off the base but ye get the general idea. I want to paint up the tornado to look like a swirling wind of plague and pestilence.

Sculpting a tornado is a really hard task and i can't even decide how i'd do it. The problem is that you can't actually see a tornado but only the material it has picked up and twirls around. So what would a plague tornado be made of? Rotten and/or liquified flesh, concentraded germs and virus, flies and maggots, or some other warp based stuff? Probably a combination of some of those.

Your tornado seems to lack a real rotation direction. And it is to straight, to clean for a wild tornado i think.

If you look at real tornados they mostly have a slight twist to them.

Maybe you could try to add some greenstuff lines twirling around the main shape, maybe even add pieces of rotten flesh(small GS chunks) or cut up bits from maybe some zombies that the tornado has picked up. And/or you could try to bent some spiraling wires around it to give it more direction. This might also help creating a more "non-solid" look. But the wire might be to straight ...

You could try to look at other Djinn models from other manufactures out there and try to draw inspiration from them. (Although i think those would probably have a more "puff of smoke" kinda appearance.

Or maybe look at artwork from maybe a comic or something. For example try searching for pictures of "red tornado" from DC comics
Here are just an few examples from deviantart: http://craigcermak.deviantart.com/art/Red-Tornado-217218396

Originally when i sculpted the tornado it was supposed to be constructed of plague ridden air, bile juices and pestilent smog, pretty thick and viscous goop I was thinking on the base of using sprue and bending parts off it up towards the center to look like its being uprooted by the gale. I'm hoping a lot of the problems with the rotation of the winds will be fixed with the paint job. For example a lot of the pictures you linked to DA if you turned the tornado effects completely black for example it would look like a single solid mass, its only the colours that allow you to differentiate different wind currents within the tornado.

As for the straightness of it, I think that might be the angle I took the picture at, in real life its a pretty lumpy looking tornado as regards the swirling.

On another note I do have one small problem with this guy that I suppose is more of a gameplay question. He is pretty tall, the tornado comes up to about the height of a metal great unclean one, now since he'll be flying I wouldn't think this to be a problem but could I get called for MFA?

Also, i checked your blog, your GS skills are amazing

The last picture i posted is an actuall miniature and you can see that there are some thicker strands of "wind" highlighted white and yellow. You could try to work something similar into your tornado either with paint like you said or gently press some GS lines around it.

And what i mean with straigthness is not the surface of your tornado but the basic shape. you could avoid the "ice cone" look if you added a slight twist similar to those:

I've made a very simple mockup of what i mean. All i'd add is just a few lines of GS in an asymetrical pattern to get a stronger twirl effect and to break with the triangual basic shape of your tornado cone.

Okey dokey I've tried to do as you suggested also added a bit of paint to the original tornado but as for adding a curve to the main body it would be impossible to do at this point without. increasing the height of the model, which is pretty tall already.

thats him blacked out due to an operator error with the camera.

Once more with Colour
