I've decided to enter the fray of the Empire General with a themed army of Nuln.

I wont lie, this has been prompted by my recent purchase of Tamurkhan from forge world and my love of the Theodore Bruckner model. As I read up on Nuln and the background I fell in love with the mix of technology and arcane knowledge. Therefore I decided I'd start up a themed list with Theodore Bruckner as the centre piece.

Lords

Theodore Bruckner - 335

Battle Wizard Lord lv 4 - 200

Heroes

Jubal Falk - 95

Warrior Priest - 69
(Heavy armour and shield)

Captain BSB - 135
(Armour Of Destiny)

Core

29 Halberdiers - 204
(Command, Warrior priest sits here)

29 Swordsmen - 243
(command, BSB Sits here)

30 Halberdiers - 210
(Command)

11 Ironside Hand-gunners - 171
(command with HLR)

11 Hangunners - 149
(command, HLR, Wizard Bunker)

6 Knights - 142
(Musician, flank guard)

Special

3 Demigryph Knights - 204
(command, pretty obvious who sits with these guys, other flank guard/ hammer)

Great Cannon - 120

Great Cannon - 120

Total: 2397[/B]Tactically I haven't really aimed for anything with the list. I hope it will be quite balanced and all comers, but I havn't had a great deal of experience with Empire and therefore would appreciate input from the more seasoned players out there. I am also aware that swordsmen are a lot more valuable than halberds, however as this is a themed list and the city state of Nuln uses a lot of pikes, half pikes and halberds I opted for two units of halberds.

I would also like some more artillery, but would mean a bit of a rejig, perhaps swap out the knights and play refused flank?

Any who, all input is appreciated.

Full disclosure: I'm not too familiar with the Tamurkhan book, so I can't say much about Bruckner or the Ironsides.

However, a few thoughts:

First, MSU Empire armies are risky, have you thougth about hording up your Halberds? Warrior Priests are deadly in large blocks of Halberdiers, given their bonus Hatred with those S4 attacks.

Second, what Lore are you taking? Maybe I missed it...

Finally, if you're going with a Nuln-themed list, why don't you have a Helblaster?!

Sorry let me give you a quick run down of Thedore first

-Demigryph mounted character
-Very strong stat line for a hummie
-unbreakable in challenge
-roll to hit and wound at +1
-lance has killing blow
-if hes killed the model that killed him suffers d6 auto wounds no armour or regen
-so he's an expensive character smasher

-ironside are handgunners with heavy armour (wierd I know)
-but with jubal falk in their midst they get rerolls on 1's

Mage would be metal to fit with the theme

I may very well horde up the halberds to 40 or 50 with some smaller swordsmen detachments as redirectors or roadbumps
This should hopefully free up more points for blackpowder

If you anchor one of your flanks on the table edge, you dont need a second flank guard, and can therefore drop the knights. 6 wont do much (if anything) anyway.

Pistoliers would serve you much better (and be more thematic)

Id suggest hording the halberds into a 50-man block, it will be far more efficient (also, check the new FAQs, melee detachments just got WAY better...)

Drop the HLR from the ironsides, if anything, go with the repeater handgun (gives the same effect as three handgunners for the cost of 2, inc champion upgrade)

Drop the champion from the demigryphs, you want Bruky to be getting a LoS.

And tbh, though the models are beyond sweet-sauce, ironsides really arent worth it. A handgunner is going to die, heavy armour or no... (just use the models as regular handgunners)

I was thinking of playing refused flank. I suppose it would free me up a lot of the stress of deployment but i'd have to play my cards right.

And i've just checked the F&Q, I assume you are referring to the fact the detachments get steadfast if the regiment does? Cos that is ridiculous. I can have some fun with that.

I was also thinking it may just be a case of playing the ironsides as normal gunners, but that re-roll on ones seems nice considering my dice rolls lol

I'm liking this forum a lot already, theres actually active members who reply. On four separate boards I've not received a single reply.

And if anyone could point me in the right direction for some fluff on Nuln, or background, i'd highly appreciate it!

EDIT: I've also now noticed that Reaper, Theodores mount, is actually a monster, not monstrous cav. That sucks.

Im referring to the fact that parent units that are not even in CC automatically grant steadfast to detachments...

and tbh? if you were hitting on 2s/3s, then yeah, rerolling 1s would be a substantial return on your investment. But since you will normally be hitting on 4s/5s, re-rolling ones aint gonna help that much...

and bingo was his name-o

With the new FAQ, I'd deploy crossbow and handgunner detachments in front of halberd/greatsword hordes.

Pepper with bolt and shot, and clean up with massed halberds/great weapons.

A blanket steadfast is extremely good.

After researching and thinking about it in more depth I've come up with a second list.
(based around the fact Bruckner doesn't seem to be fielded as part of a unit.)

Its different ideal with a big unit of halberds anchoring the middle and swords providing the anvil. The stank provides a nuisance for flanks. More artillery and more black powder. All in all a more static list.

However Im still running a bit risky on ld I guess
