Hey guys, I just started playing, and I've been fielding my Blood Angels unpainted.
I'm sorry.
Anyway, I just got some of the paints for my basic color scheme, but I bought black primer, which I found was a really bad idea for my bright purple/yellow color scheme. How do I strip the paint off of the models,
I also want to run a Plasmagun, a Plasma Cannon, and a Meltagun, but I can't find any of these bits wherever I look. How do I field these? Also, can I use a Gauss Flayer as a stand in Meltagun? I think it looks really cool and my friend has like 5 of them without a home.

Not a dig, but try the search feature - there's a lot of great material already here on this forum. Also check the painting and modelling tutorials, people have put a lot of effort into making good easy to follow guides for a lot of topics including paint stripping. When I just started I checked the tutorials periodically to broaden my knowledge of aspects of the hobby and it helped a lot. How do I strip the paint off of the models, This and this were hits from the tutorials forum. Summarised is you can use several products including dettol or simple green iirc. Dettol is: Buy the brown dettol. Submerge the minis in it for a few hours. Scrub the minis using dettol or metho (not water - it gums it all up). Soak in water to remove smell. If you're not playing in tournaments you can proxy them, just make sure your opponent knows what they are and is fine to play it that way. Ebay is a good place to search for bits. Other than that google "<item name> bitz" and you should get a lot of hits. You could also try converting them, for example this thread has some good ways to create special weapons from other bits. Welcome to the hobby ; )

The Marine Standing Behind Marneus Calgar

Your basic tactical squad box should have a flamer,melta, and plasma gun. Command squad box as well, might be a few others.

are two sites I use to look for what's on sprues. Some are on GWs site as well. There are also 3rd party, bitz sellers, and e-bay if you want.
I recommend you pick up a devastator box. It comes with 2xPC, 2xLC, 2xHB, a MM and a ML. Even if you never field them as a devastator squad, they give your tacs a lot of options. There are only enough torsos to make 5 marines, but if you have a spare torso I think you get 6 out of the box. It's nice to have them all assembled so you can tailor your weapons to your list. A tac squad box will give you the spare bodies you need.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

Instead of stripping the primer, try putting down your first coat of paint using one of GW's foundation line. Ceramite white or whatever they're calling grey now will work fine for building up to yellow.

For bright colours priming white gives an excellent base to paint from. It gives an even better base to paint quickly usinh washes and inks - even if you want a dark purple armour a deep purple ink followed by a purple wash will give an excellent look and will do the bulk of the shading and hilglighting for you (especuallu if you use a clean wet brush on the wet ink to clean off raised or more intensely lit areas of the model).
So if you are interested, check out the P3 or valejo paintranges for their washea and inks, or look at gw's washes.

I always use simple green http://www.lowes.com/pd_214388-380-13005R_0__?productId=3142129&Ntt=simple+green&pl=1¤tURL=%3FNtt%3Dsimple%2Bgreen&facetInfo= this is (pardon the pun) simple the best stripper I have found. We used it when I was in the USCG on the outside of our cutters to clean them with no worries to it getting in the water of the bay as it is environmentally friendly, and it isn't so harsh on bare skin as well, but do to being enzyme base will strip off your water based paint really well, depending on what you used as a primer it may have bonded to your models though, so it may not get them 100% bare. Once you soak the model for a day or so just clean it with an old toothbrush and then rinse it off in warm water, you may want to let it soak once more for another day to really get it clean after that, but YMMV.
as for getting a better coloration, white for a primer will make the colors pop a lot, then grey keeps them neutral and black will darken them up significantly, you can use a base paint from the citadel line to help with coverage issues, but from what i am getting you want to use a white primer coat, and then I would suggest averland sunset as the yellow base and either naggaroth night or deamonette hide for the purple base;

GW sells some bits kits for you;
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440339a&prodId=prod1710020a This for the melta guns
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440339a&prodId=prod1710022a This is for your plasma guns
as for your plasma cannon you have a couple of choice that i found on bits and kits either the forgeworld heresy ere plasma cannon http://www.bitsandkits.co.uk/horus-heresy-plasma-canon-kit-p-7844.html or the normal plasma cannon from the devestator kit http://www.bitsandkits.co.uk/space-marine-devastator-plasma-cannon-p-229.html
and to be honest i would cringe at a gauss flayer in the hands of a space marine, fluff screams no in many different ways, the marines would never use filthy xenos weapons (outside of a few extreme cases, and none are blood angels successors) and if the necron warrior that dropped the weapon dies the weapon and the necron would be teleported back to the tomb world immediately for repair, so no chance to pick it up to use (outside of a few extreme circumstances)

You may use anything I post, just remember to give me credit if used somewhere else. |

Alright, sounds awesome. Thanks for the help! I'm gonna start with Naggaroth Night and Averland Sunset, than use Xerus Purple and Flash Gitz Yellow. As for the Plasma Cannon, I managed to find a cheap one that's from the US, so the shipping is a bit cheaper.
No argument about the Gauss Flayer. The more we saw what it'd look like, the more ridiculous and silly it looked.
You're all amazing <3
