evening dakka,

I need some advice regarding krmulticases. I currently have a backpack2, which is full (2 card cases). I'm going to be adding a third card case in the near future and probably a fourth card case before the year is out. that should be enough to fit 2000pts of space marines into. way down the road, I'll also be buying either additional card cases or just additional foam trays for the cases I already have so I can carry my CSM army instead of my space marine army. that wouldn't happen until late in the year at best, though.

the question is what bag(s) should I use to carry all these card cases around? I have the backpack2 already, so that's 2 cases covered. I could skip the bag for the third card case since it has it's own carry handle and deal with this whole problem when I get around to buying a 4th card case. or, I could get a second bag that will fit an two card cases (e.g., kaiser2 transport bag) to go along with my backpack2. or, I could go the fully monty and get the kaiser4 bag, but then the backpack2 I already have is useless (that would bum me out a bit because it wasn't cheap).

what does dakka think?

You could use a similarly sized duffel bag for your extra cases.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

I had the same problem last year.
Eventually, I went for an aluminium 2, to replace 2 of my cardboard boxes.
It's not huge, which is a good thing when you want to get at the stuff at the bottom. Put the deeper trays at the bottom and just lift out the troops trays to get at them.
But, I now take the alu2 case, and 1-2 cardboards in the backpack.

I'm hoping to get another alu2 case for my 2nd army. Cardboard is good, but if you can fit your whole core army in the alu, you can easily choose which cardboard to take.

Since the foam costs the most, once you have cases and spare cardboard, just buy more foam when you expand.

I might think about getting something in the 3 size. This way if you need to bring 2 boxes, you have your backpack. If you need 3 boxes, you use the kaiser 3. If you need more then that, you use both. But you don't need to drag both cases until you hit the 4 box level (which is a lot of stuff). Plus, you are covered up to 5 boxes of minis.

Sigh, one of these days I'll get one myself, for now I just look wistfully at their website...

a padded box inside a duffel bag is pretty much how I carried things around before I picked up the backpack2. while it works, the box shifted around too much inside the bag and ended up sideways or at some other awkward angle. not a problem for the minis, but made it a pain to carry. speaking of which, I forgot to mention that I generally transport everything around on buses and trains to get to my flgs. the backpack2, when completely full, does not do well in that environment :p I have to take it off and carry it like regular bag until I'm back on the street. that might push me more in the direction of a 3 or 4 case bag, just so I only have one to deal with. how heavy is that alu2 case, anyway?

I'd just buy a second bag, one with room for your eventual 2 boxes, but leave out buying the foam for the second box until you know what you need in it. Carrying a half full bag isn't horrible.

The aluminium case is very light. The wall panels are very thin, but padded and still strong enough.
The lid catches are fairly flimsy, so strap it up if you're taking it on the bus. You don't want it popping open.

The only thing I have a problem with on the backpack and Kaiser cases is carrying hardback books.
I've not tried fitting a codex or normal BRB in the big pocket, but the thickness of the collectors BRB is just too much to fit in anything apart from a case pocket.

I have a Kaiser 4, and it is pretty big. Not the kind of thing you can easily carry around the streets, despite their inclusion of straps, but it's brilliant for storage. Particularly with all its pockets - I can fit all my codexes and FAQ's, templates, dice and tape measures, etc. in there. I think it fits their own equipment box too (the one that carries their cheaper dice/tape measure).

I'm quite a forward-thinker when it comes to this stuff, and if I were in your position, I would plan out my marine army first and then buy a Kaiser bag containing all the cases for it. So if it's four, then I'd get a Kaiser 4. Your spare Kaiser 2 and card cases would then be saved for your next army, and you may only have to replace one or two trays inside it. The reason I suggest buying a full Kaiser bag is it's cheaper (or at least it was when I got mine) than buying it all separately.

EDIT: Wow, just had a look at the prices, they've really gone up. It was something like £18 for a case when I got mine, I remember it slowly climbing to £21.50, and now it's £25...
